I would beg to differ; I believe the primary audience is the PC gamers. However, with the ease of rewriting code for other systems these days, it makes sense to do that instead of trashing it after the PC release.
In retrospect, I think it would be a very GOOD thing for it to be cross-platform, if and ONLY if it is done correctly and the PC version has a working (and changeable) control scheme. High-end developers get a ton more support and hype from a larger audience; targeting the 3 major systems would provide the resources and the future profit to expend more money (and hopefully end up with a better product.)
The larger the audience, the more incentive to make the best product as possible to engross that target audience. The promise of profit can be a MAJOR factor in the quality of a title; if a title promises to bring in the dough, people will spend time to perfect it. If there are any doubts that a title could flop, well, I would get it done ASAP and move on to a better and more appealing title.
Just some thoughts with what few economic courses I've taken :laff::thumb:

I always assumed that the majority of Thief players played TDS on their PCs, and now I'm curious to know how many Taffers played it on Xbox. I agree with those who've said that EM is going to aim for the largest market possible, which would be both PC & console gamers. Seems like I'm hearing about more & more games that were once exclusive to either the PC or console which have sequels, etc., being released for both. I tried playing Tomb Raider on the PC: it sucked, big time. Of course, that could have been because I was so used to playing it on the PS (I even went out & bought a controller for my PC that was nearly identical to the PS controller, but it still sucked).
I also read a post in T4 Anticipation recently that said that the reason TDS' gameplay was so screwed up and why there were no water arrows or swimmable water was because the devs decided to incorporate the 3rd person option and that affected not only the gameplay, but what Garrett in the 3rd person could or couldn't do. Here I'd always believed the faults listed above were because the game had been created for Xbox as well as the PC and that concessions had to be made since console gaming is different from PC gaming.
Bottom line; I don't really give a rat's ass how many different platforms T4 is created for; as long as EM doesn't screw up the PC version. I'd be happy with that.

"Taff you, xbox." :)
On a keyboard where you have all the buttons in the world, this is fine.
However, there is NO REASON at all why this can't be translated to the Xbox in a more streamlined, less confusing manner. The Xbox controller has more than enough buttons, actually. More than that on a controller is pushing it.
I am interested how they would translate the inventory system over, though. Scrolling thru weapons like TDS? Real-time inventory like Resident Evil 5? Paused-game inventory like Fallout 3?

I think the jury will essentially be out on this until the success (or lackthereof) of Diablo III becomes clear.

Got news for ya bud, Blizzard has always been a part of the gaming community and they always will, but you act like they are the leaders of gaming! I DON'T think that is correct!
And remember that the thing that has kept the Thief series going all these years is NOT the PC, console or any of the store versions...it was the FAN MISSIONS! When is the last time you saw a thief fan mission for a console? I have not heard of one! (Because as far as I am aware, there are NO fan missions for thief on any console,....at least none I have ever heard of!)
If ANYONE can claim the game PC or console leader title, it would probably be the folks at rockstar who sold more games with just it's GTA series than a lot of PC or console game makers ever did.

That is the exact thinking I have, as LONG as it does not screw up the PC version I am happy!
The problem in the past with TDS was that it DID.
That is what I hope they take into consideration this time, let the PC version BE the PC version by having all of the things that the original Thief series developed for PC could do...including rope arrows, swimming and no more stupid loading screens!

True, although I do feel like torrents have changed the arena so much in recent years that the PC gaming industry is much more vulnerable to pirating today than it was in 2000 when both Thief 2 and Diablo II were released. W.O.W. in my opinion, doesn't count since it requires a subscription.

Hey! Stop responding to my five second posts with nuanced opinion ...
(You may well be right. I don't believe so myself, I think Blizzard still sells to a huge number of gamers who just aren't interested in being part of a solid PC market. But the points you make are perfectly valid ...)
