When the developer of Underworld and System Shock announced they were working in a new first person game. ;)
My husband read to me a preview of a new stealth-style, first person game wherein the other characters would carry on conversations even without your character involved. He then went out & bought this new game and from the beginning of the training mission I was hooked! :thumb:
Still am, as a matter of fact.

Of the first part of Bafford's, the parts that I remember impressing me so much at the time were when you're swimming in the sewer and pass through the cistern like area with streams of water coming down.
And then when you're inside, when you come to the foyer from the inside, there's the 2 guards on the platforms and the 3 at the gate. They can't see you, but any little move you make there will be a cascade of huh, is someone there, what was that, from all the guards. And I remember that being the funniest thing at the time. You could hardly move without pushing the limit. I think that scene was the one that clinched it, although I was sold just looking at the screenshots on the back & inside of the box.
Edit: The other thing that really stood out from the beginning was that I drew a map for the levels. That was the first time I'd done that I think since C64 RPGs.

And as such, TTLG was born. :ebil:

I had a friend who had played TDP and really enjoyed it. He told me to pick up a copy. He knew I'd never played any modern computer games. We were always putting away the brews while playing darts and chess.
So one day I was in the local game store and saw TDP for about ten bucks so I said, "what the hell."
I could barley work a computer but I got the thing installed on IIRC an old gateway 286.
I was hooked after "Hey, I going to the bear pits tomorrow." "You wanna come with?"

When I played the TMA demo for the first time. I never played a game in first person perspective before (I didn't even know that you should use the mouse for looking and other stuff :laff:) and I was amazed by what you could do in the City. It took me an entire weekend to get to Angelwatch, but I enjoyed every minute.

Similar to demagogue, I was hooked after getting into Bafford's through the sewer. I thought the "backdoor" entry (no jokes please) was so awesome, and once I got into the basement, I had this overwhelming sense of "Man, I really should not be in here!" I'll never forget that, the feeling of being an intruder, trespassing while voyeuristically listening to the two guards talk in the basement about people like me. :laff: Of all the sneaking/stealth games out there, none have given me that same sensation, at least not as strongly.

As soon as I started to play TDP, watching the cutscenes and sneaking around on training, I knew the game was for me. Then when I first played Lord Bafford's Manor I was completely drawn in.
