IF it has to be made, Irrational is the only company who could manage to make it worthwhile, I guess. Better yet : if they could reinvent Thief like what they're doing with System Shock 2 -> Bioshock, i'd be a sucker for that.
If Irrational was to reinvent Thief I'd be interested only so long as it is not set in any modern or future era. It would have to be a merchant capitalist society or an emergent idustrial society in an enlightenment era European-like setting to be near the Thief I know and love. Thief with glocks or lasers is not a purchase I'd ever make.
