I lied. The Halloween thread. - by Tocky

I said I wouldn't post another Halloween thread. But there might be one person out there who has sat at a campfire and swears they have a story that's true. With firelight dancing in their eyes they might just whisper they have one with just the right reluctance and grudging believability. You don't want to believe it because we are men of science you and I but there it is, defiant in the face of all you know to be true. In the light of day you will deny it but just for tonight a cold wind blows on the back of your neck and weakens your resolve.
I'll tell you what makes me wonder, what first made me question voodoo. You are never expecting strange shit to happen. It happens completely random with no warning. There might be years between odd things but when it happens you never quite forget it. It was the late seventies and we were late teens and it was much as the TV show. It was great. Kev had a cool neighbor and he and me and Frank had gone over to partake. It happened a lot in those days.
So yeah, we were sitting in a circle in a foggy living room when this Stevie Nix looking chick comes in and sits while another is twisted up. She is holding her midsection and rocking so naturally we ask. She says some woman put a curse on her for messing around with her husband. Right. We don't believe that shit for a second. She ate something bad or has a virus. No, she swears this woman cursed her. Okay crazy lady whatever. She is in obvious pain though. Ashen with it. We have a cure.
Only it doesn't work. At first. Then the tension eases on her face and she says she feels better. Well that's great then. See? No curse or some silly shit you've convinced yourself of through your guilt over some womans anger. It was psychosomatic. There just is no such thing as curses we tell her. It's some African superstition for the weak minded. Just an oogey boogey to get some loose change from the masses. Then it comes back and she doubles over again. Whatever the cause the pain is real and we urge her to go to the doctor like anyone sensible would. She says we don't understand. We argue otherwise. Things have a cause and it's best not to think it's some dark magic or it could kill you for real. Stupid causes death sometimes.
Then a strange thing happens. The pain is so terrible it's hard not to feel empathy. I watch her and say in that voice you use in your head that I wish I could take her pain for her. It wasn't something I said out loud, just a sympathetic response. I wasn't expecting anything to actually happen. But it did. I felt the most excruciating pain rip at my stomach. I broke a cold sweat in agony. It was like the worst constipation you have ever felt complete with that sickly dizzy helpless feeling and something more, a twisting tearing and godhelpme clawing feeling. I look at her and she says the pain is gone. She breathes a sigh of relief. She says you can't imagine how it feels and how good it is that it is gone. Only I can. It's ripping me up. I try to deny it. I try to force it away by reason. I can't. I try to force it away by shear will. It is more powerful. It's like a thing alive in my guts. I try to wait it out. I can't. I wish it away, whence it came if need be, just away, anything other than another moment of that awful pain. It goes. Just like that.
I can't believe it. It is so wonderful for it to be gone. Then I look at her and see that she is once again in agony. I now know exactly what she feels and no matter how I feel for her I don't want it back. Hell no. I'm a coward now. Maybe she deserves it and maybe not but I can't handle it. I'm a true believer now or at least enough not to tempt fate. But I feel so sorry for her. I have a new appreciation for her pain.
I'm happy and a bit surprised when she says her pain is gone again. I don't have to feel guilty for not taking the pain myself now that I know I can. She is better. I can't remember what all we were talking about but I notice Frank isn't talking. He is sitting there sweating and pale with his lips pressed together. He is doing the same thing I did. I know it. I can see in his eyes what he is going through and the bastard is determined. I don't say anything because I don't want people to think I'm nuts but damn it I know. He lasts a long time. He shames me with how long. But eventually she is in pain again and he is talking and okay. Like me he never said a word about that though.
Outside after we leave me and Kev and Frank get to talking about her and how strange that shit was. Kev sheepishly admits he felt so bad for her he wanted to take her pain and suddenly it came on him and he couldn't take it. I didn't say a word. I hadn't noticed Kev at that time but she had a first time when her pain eased and that explained it. Then Frank is amazed because he did the same thing and talks excitedly about how bad the pain was. I'm freaking. I know this can't be but yet I saw it in his face at the time. This is some unbelievable mass hypnosis shit. I don't even own up to my part. I never tell them. This shit just cannot be. I listen to the awe in thier voices and tell myself no anyway. I know but I keep silent and tell myself I don't. There is some angle to it I haven't figured but I'm damned if I know what it is. Decades later I still don't so I'm just going to go with it didn't happen. Nope. Just a Halloween story now.
So you got a good one? Make it up if you have to but don't wimp out and admit it. I'll even make out that I lied if it helps you. Except I didn't of course. Heh.

I don't really want to publicly disclose where I was, but I saw a what I consider(ed) to be a 'ghost' once. VERY faint, completely white (but semi-transparent) and it looked like it had that video game HDR/Bloom effect cranked way up on it. I swear I got a female vibe from it, but it is probably just because of the way it appeared to be wearing a gown and long hair. It was so overexposed, fluid, and flowing that it could have been anything, male or female, and I was just relating it to a familiar object (in this case an almost bridal looking female).
It silently, slowly slid by and even seemed to turn and 'look' at me for a sec. It was odd because while it was there the crickets outside stopped chirping (I was indoors with windows open and out in the country. Crickets were LOUD out there) and I swear my heart and breathing stopped.
Never in my life have I seen anything like that.

It wasn't outside a tulle factory on a windy night was it?
I've never seen a ghost. But I've (
http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60842-d282444-r54772106-Riverhouse_Motor_Lodge-Gatlinburg_Tennessee.html) felt one. I'm a silly ass for putting that in my review but it happened and I had some fun out of it... afterward. Some few pmed me wanting the room number and I gave it. Harmless fun. Wring the most out of everything I say.
Any pumpkins or porches or family members in love with zombies out there?

Like Tocky, I've never seen a ghost, but believe I've felt one. I was down in the basement of my old home doing laundry about a year after my husband had died; folding my bluejeans while they were still warm and stacking them on top the dryer, which wasn't running while I was folding, btw. I had a neatly folded stack of four pair which I'd pushed back away from the dryer's edge since I didn't want them toppling onto the somewhat dirty basement floor and was folding the fifth pair when it happened. In dead silence the stack of folded jeans suddenly seemed to kind of flip up & forward; not just gradually topple and slide downwards, mind you. I mean the whole stack just flipped - as though someone had reached around the back of the stack, put their hand under the bottom-most pair and then just flipped the whole stack upwards with their fingers. I had the oddest feeling that I wasn't alone down there; not a threatening feeling, just that there was someone else standing close by.
Guess it was a good thing that those jeans were the last load of the week for me, 'cuz I didn't go down into the basement again for awhile. And when I did, I made my dog go down there with me.
Anyhow, these are nothing creepy or spooky, but they're my kind of Halloween pics. ;)

For those who haven't read it, here it is again, the (
http://www.charismamag.com/index.php/prophetic-insight/23723-the-danger-of-celebrating-halloween) Danger of Celebrating Halloween:
Halloween—October 31—is considered a holiday in the United States. In fact, it rivals Christmas with regard to how widely celebrated it is. Stores that sell only Halloween-related paraphernalia open up a few months before the day and close shortly after it ends. But is Halloween a holiday that Christians should be observing?
The word "holiday" means "holy day." But there is nothing holy about Halloween. The root word of Halloween is "hallow," which means "holy, consecrated and set apart for service." If this holiday is hallowed, whose service is it set apart for? The answer to that question is very easy—Lucifer's!
Lucifer is a part of the demonic godhead. Remember, everything God has, the devil has a counterfeit. Halloween is a counterfeit holy day that is dedicated to celebrating the demonic trinity of : the Luciferian Spirit (the false father); the Antichrist Spirit (the false holy spirit); and the Spirit of Belial (the false son).
The key word in discussing Halloween is "dedicated." It is dedicated to darkness and is an accursed season. During Halloween, time-released curses are always loosed. A time-released curse is a period that has been set aside to release demonic activity and to ensnare souls in great measure.
You may ask, "Doesn't God have more power than the devil?" Yes, but He has given that power to us. If we do not walk in it, we will become the devil's prey. Witchcraft works through dirty hearts and wrong spirits.
During this period demons are assigned against those who participate in the rituals and festivities. These demons are automatically drawn to the fetishes that open doors for them to come into the lives of human beings. For example, most of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches.
I do not buy candy during the Halloween season. Curses are sent through the tricks and treats of the innocent whether they get it by going door to door or by purchasing it from the local grocery store. The demons cannot tell the difference.
Even the colors of Halloween (orange, brown and dark red) are dedicated. These colors are connected to the fall equinox, which is around the 20th or 21st of September each year and is sometimes called "Mabon." During this season witches are celebrating the changing of the seasons from summer to fall. They give praise to the gods for the demonic harvest. They pray to the gods of the elements (air, fire, water and earth).
Mother earth is highly celebrated during the fall demonic harvest. Witches praise mother earth by bringing her fruits, nuts and herbs. Demons are loosed during these acts of worship. When nice church folk lay out their pumpkins on the church lawn, fill their baskets with nuts and herbs, and fire up their bonfires, the demons get busy. They have no respect for the church grounds. They respect only the sacrifice and do not care if it comes from believers or non-believers.
Gathering around bonfires is a common practice in pagan worship. As I remember, the bonfires that I attended during homecoming week when I was in high school were always in the fall. I am amazed at how we ignorantly participate in pagan, occult rituals.
The gods of harvest that the witches worship during their fall festivals are the Corn King and the Harvest Lord. The devil is too stupid to understand that Jesus is the Lord of the Harvest 365 days a year. But we cannot be ignorant of the devices of the enemy. When we pray, we bind the powers of the strong men that people involved in the occult worship.
Halloween is much more than a holiday filled with fun and tricks or treats. It is a time for the gathering of evil that masquerades behind the fictitious characters of Dracula, werewolves, mummies and witches on brooms. The truth is that these demons that have been presented as scary cartoons actually exist. I have prayed for witches who are addicted to drinking blood and howling at the moon.
While the lukewarm and ignorant think of these customs as "just harmless fun," the vortexes of hell are releasing new assignments against souls. Witches take pride in laughing at the ignorance of natural men (those who ignore the spirit realm).
Decorating buildings with Halloween scenes, dressing up for parties, going door-to-door for candy, standing around bonfires and highlighting pumpkin patches are all acts rooted in entertaining familiar spirits. All these activities are demonic and have occult roots.
The word "occult" means "secret." The danger of Halloween is not in the scary things we see but in the secret, wicked, cruel activities that go on behind the scenes. These activities include:
* Sex with demons
* Orgies between animals and humans
* Animal and human sacrifices
* Sacrificing babies to shed innocent blood
* Rape and molestation of adults, children and babies
* Revel nights
* Conjuring of demons and casting of spells
* Release of "time-released" curses against the innocent and the ignorant.
Another abomination that goes on behind the scenes of Halloween is necromancy, or communication with the dead. Séances and contacting spirit guides are very popular on Halloween, so there is a lot of darkness lurking in the air.
However, Ephesians 1:19-21 speaks of the authority of the believer and the exceeding greatness of God's power in us (the same power that raised Christ from the dead). It goes on to say that that Jesus is seated in heavenly places far above all principalities, power, might, dominions and every name that is named. The good news is that because we are seated in heavenly places with Jesus, the same demonic activity that is under His feet is under our feet, too!
People who worship the devil continue to attempt to lift him up. But he has already been cast out and down! Many are blinded to this fact, but the day will come when all will know he has been defeated once and for all.
When we accept Jesus but refuse to renounce Satan and his practices, we are neither hot nor cold but lukewarm—and the Word says that God will spit us out of His mouth. The problem with lukewarm is that it attempts to mix the things of the devil with the things of God. It is God's desire that we serve Him alone.
Second Corinthians 6:15 asks the question, "And what agreement has Christ with Belial?" As believers, we need to answer that question in our hearts. We must avoid the very appearance of evil. I would not want a demon spirit to mistake me for an occult worshiper.
There is no doubt in my heart that God is not calling us to replace fall festivals and Halloween activities; rather, He wants us to utterly destroy the deeds of this season. If you or your family members have opened the door to any curses that are released during the demonic fall festivals, renounce them and repent. I already have. Then declare with me: "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord!"

Oh. Good. Lord. *insert facepalm here*
'
Halloween: All Hallows Day was originally celebrated in the spring, but with the Celtic Holiday of Samhain being celebrated October 31, a move was made to place All Hallows Day on November 1. Thus October 31 became known as All Hallows Eve, eventually, Halloween. Indeed Samhain was a pagan holiday, one where people dressed up and reversed roles. They pulled pranks and partied with the people who had died during the year. Pagans were not afraid of their dead as many of us are today. Rather these spirits were welcomed. It is not true that masks were worn to ward off the dead. It is also entirely untrue that sacrifices to the Devil were made by Pagans on this day. The Devil is a Christian belief, Pagans did not worship the Devil.'
Furthermore ........
'
Sunday: Sunday has long been the Pagan day of worship to the Sun God Mithra.'
'
Easter: Easter was a fertility holiday, a time to worship the Goddess Eastre (there are many spellings of this name, including Ishtar, Oester, and Eastur). As you can see this Goddess also gave her name to such things as Estrus, the female reproductive cycle, and Estrogen, a female hormone. This holiday was amazingly popular and in Pagan times, rabbits, and eggs, were fertility symbols used to celebrate this holiday.'
'
Christmas: Most people, even Christians, realize that December 25 was not Christs actual birthday. In the old calendar December 25 was the winter solstice, a day to celebrate the returning of the sun. In Rome December 17 was the start of a seven day holiday to celebrate the birth of the god Saturn. The Iranian sun God Mithra (also linked with Helios) was born of a virgin birth, on December 25. In many parts of the world the holidays' original name was Saturnalia. Saturnalia was a celebration that lasted several days and involved feasting and the exchange of gifts. Evergreens, which represented life, were brought into the homes and decorated. Nearly every Christmas tradition, from the wreath to the star, have pagan origins, there are too many to list here, but a link is provided at the bottom. As with Easter the holiday was too popular, so rather than forbidding newly converted Christians from celebrating it, the Church renamed the day and over time reassigned meanings to the traditions, for example, the nativity scenes which were originally made to honor the birth of Saturn where now referenced to worship Jesus.'
Remind me never to invite you to go trick or treating.
