I probably finish 80-90% of all the games I start.

I generally finish most of the games I play, too.
I wonder what you could learn from Team Fortress 2's achievements, since it has so many? For example, only 4.9% of people to have backstabbed 1000 enemies, while the most common achievement, for killing five enemies without dying, is only unlocked by 58.1% of players. I'll assume that means that around 40% of players just bought TF2 because it was cheap, and didn't play it very much (if at all).
And, speaking of Metro 2033, only 86.4% of players have the First Blood achievement, which you get for your first kill.
While at first it looks like 91.3% of players finished the first / introductory level of Trine, but only 29.5% completed the entire game, I recall that Trine didn't initially have achievements, so those values are probably very inaccurate.

Yeah those numbers sound off. As short and sweet as that game was, and considering the initial high price I'd think more people would've finished it.

wait, you guys actually methodically finish every game you play?, I thought those games you just cannot put down until you finish them are quite rare.
For me they are. It has to be special.

both trine and metro were on sale though very recently which can apply to the amount of people who have not played it yet.

I typically finish all my games too. I bought 'em, might as well get my money's worth out of 'em, right?
There are exceptions, of course. If the difficulty ramps up sharply and suddenly (Alien Trilogy for the PSX, for example) or if technical issues get in the way, then yeah I won't finish a game.

Well I'd think a lot of people would finish Portal. Guess what.

Metro 2033 is also part of the Steam "Full THQ Pack" (which has been on sale a couple of times), making it even more likely that someone has it but hasn't played it.

It would be interesting to use these to compare to metacritic ratings and see if better reviewed games are finished more often then badly reviewed ones.

Mandatory Achievements are just about the stupidest thing ever. Thank you, everyone's-a-winner culture.

Do you also get about 45 minutes into movies, loudly declare "BORED NOW!", and walk out?
