I was thinking you could cunningly add in an achievement for playing the game for X hours and still not finishing it, but then some people would try to get "god you must suck" on purpose!

Or maybe they dont suck but play the game on hardest difficulty setting on their first go to get the most playing value out of it. Whereas it is those who just rush through a game on easiest difficulty to be done with it who really suck.
And nobody wants achievements they can never achieve under certain preconditions.

Recent ramblings about Skyrim being best-selling game of all time on Steam made me remember this thread because I thought "Hey, I bet half of the people probably hardly even played it".
And sure enough, only 53.1% have reached level 25.
Consumerism, it's a disease

wait, you guys actually methodically finish every game you play?, I thought those games you just cannot put down until you finish them are quite rare.
It's difficult to evaluate, but if I look at my Steam library, I'd say I "finished" about 25% of the game I bought (not including games I had in a bundle and for which I have zero interest).

That's actually far better than I would have expected - it means that over half the number of players have put some serious time into the game. You can pick almost any title and find statistics that suggest people haven't played the game:
* Over a quarter of Portal players didn't get the portal gun
* 40% of Fallout New Vegas players didn't recruit a companion
* A third of people who have "The binding of Isaac" haven't completed the basement
* 12% of people playing Torchlight haven't found the entrance to the mine (presumably they're still wandering about the starter village)
Perhaps these players have bought (or been gifted) the games and plan to play them later or perhaps there's a significant number of people who play offline.

I am the 46.9 per cent, in fact. I'll get there, just a lot more slowly.

I've played for 28.3 hours, and haven't reached level 25 yet.

The real question is, who gives a shit? Concern yourselves with playing your own games.

A bit early to make any conclusions on Skyrim, isn't it? The game's only been out for roughly a month. Not everyone neglects sleep/food/wives/children to reach level 50 in record time. I think 50%+ is actually pretty strong.
Edit: Here's top ten stats for today (atm). Seems obvious people aren't playing CoD/MW etc for the single player campaign, so you can throw those observations right out.
