I love a good storm. - by SubJeff

We're already getting some decent snow in NC. I got back to school just in time and my mom barely got home from work (most places aren't that bad but we live in a mountaintop ice fortress). I felt giddy all day watching it pour. I wish this was an indication we were going to get an honest to gosh winter but I know this is just a freak event.

I'm @ NE coastal MA. It was pretty bad here up until midnight or so, but then the skies cleared, the wind died down... I could even see the moon up in the sky for a time. It's clouded back over, but the wind is still relatively calm.
I can still tell the storm has wreaked havoc, though, because the internet is totally farked. There must be a lot of data centers around NYC that have lost power.
I guess I made out pretty well if my biggest inconvenience so far is not being able to stream this cool pinball documentary I found on Netflix.

That was the weakest excuse for a tropical storm evar.

Here in the Midwest (IL & WI) we're still being warned to stay away from the Lake Michigan shoreline. Guess there are storm surge waves topping 24 feet. Can't wait to see the footage on the news of the morons who heard the warning, but went to the Lake's edge anyway to see for themselves.
Meanwhile, the barometric pressure is wreaking havoc on my sinuses.
Hope all of you in the storm's path survived safe & sound; looks like hell arrived on the East coast.

May have been weak "for" a tropical storm but it seems to have been pretty bad.
Bet that guy with the house on stilts is smug as a mofo.
Jason Moyer on 30/10/2012 at 17:06
For me it was tame, because a.) our house had significant flood damage during Hurricane Ivan b.) we've come close to having significant flooding as recently as a few months ago during a short thunderstorm and c.) the creek on our property didn't even overflow its banks, which is does all the time. I came home from work at 7am not knowing if the roads would be passable or if my house would have 4 feet of water in it, so I had a nice morning. People in NJ and around NYC obviously didn't have it quite so good.

catbarf is in Rochester, NY (my hometown :)) which is right on the forecast path, though it will surely be a tropical storm by then.
Last night was pretty intense, a bunch of roads got heavily flooded. One of my buddies decided to bike home for some unfathomable reason, and was lifted by the wind and thrown into a river. Raining sideways, cats and dogs, the whole nine yards.
And today it's cloudy but no wind and not a drop of rain. Surprisingly, my apartment complex didn't lose power at any point, which is odd considering the power seems to cut whenever somebody sneezes too hard.

Well, power back on over 24 hours after I lost it.
Weak maybe, but certainly strong enough to cause trouble.
