I'd like a thumbs up/thumbs down system on every post.
I don't like that - I think too often instead of "was this a funny\informative\well reasoned post" it becomes "do you agree with this person". I'd at least say, don't implement the hiding of heavily downvoted posts.

Discouraging megathreads isn't going to fix everything - no one said that. The reason I don't "just jump in" is because I don't want to spend precious time scanning 75 pages to see if someone's already mentioned it. Maybe I saw a movie or found an album a year late. Was it discussed when it came out? If it was, and I post in the megathread, it's old hat. In such a small community, if only 3-5 people think the way I do, we completely miss each other, or miss an existing discussion. That adds up after a while.
Additionally, "just jumping in" can disturb a conversation already in progress. On the off chance that an actual discussion starts to form in any megathread, it is only a matter of time before it gets squashed under the avalanche of new, unrelated opinion.
At any rate, megathreads aren't the biggest problem facing Comm Chat, they're just the easiest to debate.

Agree - Megathreads are not the root of the problem, but getting rid of them would certainly help. I'll try posting more stand-alone stuff and not let possible presence in megathreads deter me!
Also, just to be clear: once this discussion is concluded we're going to ban Koki, right?

You just named a future ZSA song.
and now back to your regularly scheduled discussion

Who the hell are ZSA?

Well it'd certainly fit with the names on that set list, though one would suppose it would be included in a new repertoire; one with rather more wit, guffaw.
Although the "She Blinded Me With Science" title did make me chuckle.

You haven't seen the new titles we've come up with. Like 'Youtube: Where Discourse Goes to Die.'
Or 'My God You Guys Are Bitter (Go Buy a Wii or Something.)' (hi aja)
