Of the available options I think the troll hunting tag is the best, but if we're talking punishments, may I suggest wiki-fying trolls? i.e. Make it so everybody can edit the trolls posts
except the troll.
I saw that done once over on Whitechapel, and it was incredibly effective.
Ohohoh...hell yeah...that's brilliant :thumb:

It has funny potential for sure. Just one thread where everyone could edit everyones post would be something to see as well. I just feel a bit icky at anything which feels like a pile on. I almost want to jump in on thier side even when I know they are wrong.
I mostly just want more posting of all kinds, even bad, because it generates discussion and the funny. I don't know that I NEED more options. But ICAN"T COOK nor can I PHOTOSHOPS without more time investment to learn than I have to invest usually. On the other hand every one of you bastards can carve a pumpkin and post it BUT DO YOU? NO. I cook and I clean and this is the thanks I get. Okay, I don't cook and I would rather pay someone in a skimpy outfit to clean but you get me.

I don't see why the good old-fashioned banning of assholes wouldn't work. Just keep a bit stricter and more consistent line against idiotic shit.
What I've been wondering all through my 10 or so years in Commchat is how certain trolls get away with almost anything. I totally get the "But he's OUR own crazy person", but as a community it doesn't send a very clear message to new members - let alone potential new trolls - when certain people are allowed to spout rude, insulting shit randomly at anyone and everyone, as long as they 1) have been around long enough, and 2) sometimes scream something funny.

If you're going to add a subforum, don't make it a serious forum, make it a cesspool. Next time somebody randomly calls somebody else a turdsurfer, move the post to the threadshitters forum. Let that be the place where the offended party can go to call him a cockgobbler. They can trade insults there until it's out of their system. If somehow something funny comes out of it, we can always go have a look.
Another problem with serious threads is that some people have way too much free time to spend here and can't stop themselves from posting at least once per page even if they have nothing interesting to say. These posters drive the pace of the thread. But many of the people who have something interesting to contribute have busier lives and just can't keep up. It would be nice if the serious threads developed at a rate that encouraged quality over quantity. I was going to suggest a limit of one post per person per day for serious threads, but worry that will suppress the emergent and witty posts. Perhaps there is a more flexible way to control the pace to encourage quality.
The other problem we all know about is that old posters are leaving this forum faster than new posters are joining it. I hate to say this, but we have a political correctness problem here. If a new poster shows a hint of having a view out of the mainstream for this forum, we don't just argue the point, we make sure they feel unwelcome. I'll bet that keeps a lot of new people lurking instead of posting.

I once wanted to make /ttlg/ on anonib, as a joke
But sadly, anonib was already closed at that time.

Also Geebs, I'm sure there's some behind the scenes tomfoolery you can pull so that <strike>CCCToad and dethtoll</strike> some posters think they're posting in the same threads as us but in reality they are captured in some invisible horrible posting traits gulag.
The feature is called Tachy Goes to Coventry, it's a global ignore list :)
I think people soon realise when nobody responds to them though, and it also seems to play havoc with thread post counts.

Seriously. If I'm involved in thread shitting, it's because some people are consistent morons and I can't help but reply to them. Put them on the train to Shut Up Town (then nuke the town) and I'll be the best poster ever.
