I don't know; maybe Aja & Scots have a point. It might be a matter of opportunity... More of the right threads = more opportunity = more validation.
Thats kind of it, there aren't any good threads so bored people troll.
Speaking of which, we need to just make an official insult thread, where we can trade barbs without fagging up real discussion threads. Call it "The Fight Club".

Eh, how do you define a "good thread" ? I think any subject can be turned into one - depending on contributors, that is.
People troll because The Devil tells them! (according to my late gran at least)

Only if ZB & SE agree to participate.
Whenever you (CCC) & dethtoll go at it, I end up just wanting to send you both to your respective rooms.
Too much like RL.

dethtoll and CCCToad live in your house?

We're ALL posting from Dia's house right now. Where are you?
I'm with Scots and Aja too. Megathreads aren't worth wading through and any focused discussion gets lost in the mix. It also deters me from starting threads about new movies, books, etc. because there's already this huge intimidating thread where my post is sure to be overlooked within a day or two - it cuts discussion short, and also prevents the interesting off-the-track discussions that were usually better than the intended discussion for the thread. For me, there's a real aversion to just adding a drop in the bucket of a 20+ page thread. Why bother?

Plus, who's going to start reading a megathread? If you were following it from the start, okay, but the thought of starting to read a 50+ page thread from the beginning just scares me.
Aerothorn on 28/6/2011 at 16:02
It's true - I don't read the megas and am bored as a result.
Instead of bemoaning them, let's do something. Take "new thread" topics (new movies, etc.) and post them outside the thread rather than in it. It's not like you're going to clog the forums.

I started reading one or two during occasional bouts of insomnia and very grateful I was for them too. :)

Hey, here's a fucking idea
instead of bemoaning about how you don't want to read a 50 page megathread
just jump right the fuck in
BRILLIANT!!!!!!

No. You want to talk about a movie or a book or the new lacey pair of Victoria's Secret you bought, start a new goddamned thread. Apart from list threads that inherently aren't discussion-based like the Random Youtube one, everything else megathread-like needs to die.
