I have yet to play Thief: Deadly Shadows even though i own the game itself.
The reason why is because my computer refuses to run it with the current graphics card, and for this i curse the console and all its evil. This has been going on for around a year and i have gotten used to the box collecting dust on my computer desk
Heres what i really need a second opinion on: My computer is so old, one more refomatting will start the thing on fire, but it still continues to LIVE! I am hesitant to buy a new graphics card only because at any second the computer could short out, making my efforts all for naught, but i want to play the third thief game with a passion. Should i cross my fingers and buy a new graphics card, or ride it through and wait for my computer to die?

Why wait for your current PC to die? Back everything up before it's too late and go buy a new computer. You can get some pretty good deals online and if you already have a decent monitor that'll keep the cost down as well. Even cheaper still would be to order all the components online and build yourself a new one. Right now it sounds like you're playing Russian Roulette with your old PC. Scares me and I'm fearless. ;)

Just out of interest: How old is your computer, and what specs does it have. I have some really old boxes at home, still running fine:
Probably the oldest computer I own: The good old C64 in the original bread box design, complete with Datasette and 5021 diskette drive.
The next oldest computer I own, still working is a 80486DX2, 16MB RAM, 120MB HDD, Linux 2.4. Built 1994
Used as a router until last year, but still working is a Pentium1 100MHz, 64MB RAM, 1GB HDD, S3 Trio graphic, Linux 2.4 Built 1996
Pentium1 133MHz, 64MB RAM, 1.2 GB HDD, Linux 2.6, was used by my mother for financial stuff. Built 1997
Pentium2 400MHz, Dual CPU, 768MB RAM, 240GB HDD space, Linux 2.6, built 1998, was my primary machine for 8 years, now used by my mother. Still runs like on the very first day.

I'd get an old Radeon9800. I played DX:IW (which uses the very same engine like Thief3) on my Pentium2 machine with a Radeon9800. However you should turn down graphics settings to minimum, otherwise you're playing a slide show.
But with a 1GHz class computer you should be just fine.

My 9800 Pro and and Athlon XP 2400 runs TDS at reasonable speeds (better than the Xbox version, anyway) with full detail. I'm surprised at how well this graphics card has held up.

I second the new computer, even though it will be obsolete in a month :)
But seriously, to offset the cost, you could sell parts of the old one, perhaps on eBay. Someone is always looking for used parts. Not the hard drive, maybe. If it's as bad as you say, then I wouldn't sell it to an unsuspecting person. Give it away or keep it instead. But the other parts might be worth something to somebody. Memory isn't very cheap right now, for instance, and you could sell it, or do what I did... add it to your new computer along with its memory. (Last year, I bought a new computer, but I keep the old one for testing porpoises.... er.... purposes. )
:)
Anyway, I wouldn't just get a graphics card. The old computer will just nickel and dime you to death, and you will put more money into it than it is worth. I found that out. Better to get a new one, because of all of the new parts. And you could also add the old hard drive to it for added storage, until it dies.

Can't beat the C64, but I have an 80386/SX16, 640K RAM, 40MB HDD that runs Win3.1 and DOS5.5 (built 1991). Haven't booted it in a while but I imagine it still works. Ah, back in the day when Gateway still had "2000" in their name and used quality components...

One thing you can be sure of: your current computer will die at the moment you need it the most. So if you use your pc for work or study you're probably better of getting a new one now rather then wait for it to burst into flames the night before that important paper is due.

I run T3 with an AMD 900, a ATI 8500 Vcard, 512 Ram and Win98SE.
No problem.
