Whether you play or not, you might be interested to know that Eve Online had a "(http://www.evecontest.com/finalvote/) Create a Starship" competition and the final voting is open to everyone, even if you don't have an account.

There's some brilliant artwork and renders in there (and a few bad'uns). I can't remember what my third vote was but I definitely recall going for the (http://www.evecontest.com/finalvote/semifinalists/originals/12202010-200109_175_full.jpg) Akula and the (http://www.evecontest.com/finalvote/semifinalists/originals/12202010-054138_199_full.jpg) Serval. If you've got even a passing interest, take a look.

Incidentally, the thread title "I saw your ship" is the name of one of the musical compositions in the game.

Ha, that's true.

I won't vote on the grounds that I don't know anything about EVE races and their stylistic themes so I don't know if the ship is "right".

I'm sure someone could come up with a nerdy explanation about heat or something, but I hazard a guess, and I'm going out on a limb here, that it's mainly because they look cool.

Are they wings or platforms for solar panels?

Are they wings or modular electronic units that would cause EM interference with one another if closer?

Are they wings or weapons platforms?

Are they uglier because they have wing looking things?

Are they designed with in-game physics (atmosphere or not) in mind?

Are you guys a bunch of fags?

Haaaaaving said all that my fav is definitely the Amarr Apotheon, but it might be because my fav ship in any sci-fi movie is Slave 1.

I had the original Slave 1 Star Wars toy from the 70's growing up. That and the Aluminum Falcon were just the coolest things ever created. I loved how original and uncoventional both designs were. I spent hours playing with both of those ships. I really like the pilots' positions in both ships, and I think that was what drew me to them originally.
