It was on purpose, son. Jokes and such.

My apologies but it's not as if that was immediately obvious from the straightfaced nostalgic tone of that post.

No worries, dusty, I just didn't want you to think that was truly what I thought it was called.

It's actually a Robot Chicken joke from their Star Wars episode. I thought maybe one of yous would catch the reference. The exact quote was "What the Hell is an Aluminum Falcon'?

Pretty amazing selection - I'd totally believe that most of these came from the official design team. I was most taken with the Serval, but it was really hard choosing between everyone else (I went with the Porpoise based on novelty/use and everything else was a toss-up).
Also, what's with the lack of Gallente?

'Who's
they? What the hell is an 'aluminum falcon'?'
On-topic, some of the designs are pretty neat- I do like that Serval design, and the Caldari aesthetic has always interested me. Eve has always had some great eye candy.

Ha.
For the last two weeks I've been educating myself on the subject of EVE online. Without actually playing the game. You might think that's a bit too much even for a nerd like me, but let me tell you: there's a lot of truth in the classic "EVE is an excel spreadsheet disguised as a game" jab.
Since I can't just sit down and play a MMO without having my character planned all the way to the endgame, and since ships are basically EVE's classes, I've been looking a lot at them recently.
And let me tell you, EVE has some of the ugliest ship designs I've ever seen.
Amarr, who are basically space muslims, generally have nice, sleek designs except for their Battleships: here's the (
http://www.ravestats.com/public/fen/amarr-apocalypse-1.jpg) Apocalypse, which looks like a half-dead dachshund, and the (
http://izlin.free.fr/eve/ships/faction/armageddon_imperial_issue.jpg) Armageddon, which looks like something that should have arms but doesn't.
Next is Caldari, who I think were supposed to have the most sensible looking ships. Sadly someone thought about naming most of them after birds, someone else put the bird thing into their designs, and yet someone else thought it would be a good idea to throw in some assymetry. The highlight of Caldari fleet is no doubt the (
http://wiki.eveonline.com/wikiEN/images/4/49/Moa1.jpg) Moa, which has been described as, and I quote the official EVE wiki, "a collision between a giraffe and a shipping container". Throw a rock at Caldari ships, and you have better chance to hit something ugly than not: (

http://images.wikia.com/eve/images/c/ca/RavenSI1.jpg) Raven, you name it.
Gallente true to their french roots don't really have any ugly ships, though some of them like (
http://images.wikia.com/eve/images/0/03/Exequror2.jpg) Exequror or (
http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/eveonline/imgs/c/4/c4f7931d.jpg) Hyperion look more like pimp mobiles than warships. (The (

And last, but definitely not the least, the Minmatar who are supposed to be rebels with simple but rugged designs. Sadly just as with Caldari, something went horribly wrong and their ships look like they were built from random pieces found in a junkyard, complete with horrible "rusty" color scheme and ridiculous wings everywhere. I am not even going to bother with a list, (
