I'm still on my mission to try every fan mission ever released and I have only a little over 100 to go, but I rarely have the energy to do it. When I come home from work, the last thing I want to do is sit by keyboard and mouse, and on weekends I'm usually busy with house chores and after them I'm too tired. I would love if someone made a patch with native support for ekbok controller for Thief, I believe I once created a thread about this. Most of my free time I spend by my PC but lying back in a clubchair with a controller in my hands. The end.

If you want to convert the controls to a controller, then you just use one of those apps that remaps a controller to keyboard & mouse controls for the whole system, then push the hotkey to turn it on. If you open up Thief through Steam after you've installed the FM, I believe it's already built into the Steam system too.
Another option is just to watch some let's play videos so you've at least seen the FM in action.

I really doubt if it is possible to play Thief with a console controller without tears. This game demands rather precise controls. Rarely fast but almost every time very precise.

Blackjacking people from behind demands very precise controls now? Thanks for the laugh.
Of course I know about 3rd party controller emulators, but you can't map everything on them, then there's the dead zones and what not, I mean I have tried numerous times, no thanks.

I play with a controller all the time, I’m left handed and trying to play any game using a keyboard with your hands crossed over is impossible, and controllers are just as precise as keyboards once you have got used to them.
PS. I used XPadder to set up my controller, I can’t get every keyboard action set up so I play by my comp and still use the keyboard for a few less used actions, it works fine.

I tested Thief 2 out playing with a (xbox?)controller a while back using one of those controller to mouse/keyboard input programs mentioned. Thief 2 worked very well with a controller. Dousing torches with the bow was easy enough. Not much else to be precise with unless you're Speed running, Supreme Ghosting, or maybe iron/titanium manning. Maybe there's some more difficulty with platforming? I'd have to test it some more to see. Admittedly, I was testing Thief 2 in VR simultaneously with a controller, So maybe it will feel different on a flat monitor?

And aiming with a bow to douse a distant torch? Or just looking toward the right direction to perform an accurate jump?
Thief is not just about KOing all the guards, you know, especially in some Fan Missions

I finally learned how to use Xpadder properly and already completed one fan mission with my Xbox One controller. It is so much more comfortable and dare I say modern, I know that many here are conservative bunch but I highly recommend giving it a try. I can finally lean back in my armchair and play fan missions. If you are afraid that there won't be enough controller buttons - you can combine buttons, even 3-way, so you can assign literally hundreds of actions to your controller.
And about the precision - please, controllers have been great in games with 3D graphics since the PS2 era, that's 20 years ago. Of course you can't compete in first person shooters, but in Thief? Don't be stupid.

I've finished many a FPS using my controller, maybe not online multi-players FPS, but at my age my reactions are no match for those whipper snappers, so tend not to play them anyway.
