I did something weird while I was playing my game and now I can't equip my character. The window just doesn't appear. My spells, map, and skills appear, just not my equipment. How did I do this and how do I fix it?

When asking these types of questions, it's nice to know more about yourself. What platform are you using (PC or XBox)? What version of the game (what patch, or if you're on the XBox, is it the GotY edition)?
The most important thing, however, is to tell us about any mods you have installed if you're on PC. Mods are the leading cause of problems. So my general advice is to, obviously, restart Morrowind and see if it fixes the problem. I'll go ahead and say you did this, and also say the problem persists.
Try deactivating several mods at one time. A conflict between two, or just a single badly scripted mod, could be screwing with your game.
If it's your XBox, kick it.
(NOTE: Do NOT kick the XBox above the CD tray. This is vital. It just so happens there is a sticker on top, but underneath the case, that reads 'Do not press.' Obviously I did not see this until after I kicked it and opened it up to see why it wasn't working. The genius at Microsoft. Hmph.)

Clicking the icons down in the bottom of the screen will enable/disable the windows being shown. i.e. Clicking the mini-map once will disable the map window, clicking again will re-show it.
Click on the icon showing your equipped weapon while in pause mode and it should re-appear.

Is that an option to have the ability to command you to put your face somewhere? if so slam it against a wall!
