Old briefings are OLD, not gold. OK? You agree with me, don't you? :sly:

No serious thief would go on a mission risking his life without any background informations and careful planning. Would you?
That's a very good point. An experienced (& successful) thief would never just go breaking in to a mansion, etc., without some prior knowledge as to the layout of the place, a general idea of the security setup, and so on. I'd be very apprehensive if I just got a straight objective of 'Go rob that huge mansion on the hill' without knowing a little bit about what I was getting myself into.
Plus, more in depth briefings help me accessorize properly! A girl needs to know if she's going to need water and/or fire arrows, after all. ;)

After all, one must dress for the occasion, and you do need to color co-ordinate your shoes and other clothing. :ebil:

No.
That style of briefings is perfect for this type of game. Giving glimpses of the location and map, without revealing too much, perfectly narrated by Garrett. Nothing could set the stage for each mission better. They would still be perfect for a new Thief game. The briefings is one of those things that need not improved, nor removed.

Thief briefings should be all about:
1) Getting you into character as Garrett. (audio, visual, relating info Garrett knows, him expressing his opinions of the subjects and people)
2) Hooking you into the story and making you excited to do the next mission or solve the next mystery. Glimpses of things and locations are great.
3) Getting a feel for the other characters speaking (and Garrett's opinion of them.)

What if instead of briefings, the player had to investigate the property/place by himself? And collect some information by eavesdroping and stealing maps and interogation of servants and sharing information with his fencies? All that in the game playtime. No interuptions by briefings. How about that?

We love the briefings and how simply they tell a lot of story never found in-game. I love the break between missions because the missions happened in different weeks and months, not back-to-back. TDS was back-to-back because the Final Glyph was what it all centered on, preventing us from going beyond The City or to far estates and districts like the older titles.

How about NO? :thumb:
Really, I don't think most of us thought the old briefings were interruptions. Eavesdropping and stealing extra maps is fine (which have been done in past games). But don't substitute that for the briefings altogether. That's just rubbish.
