I miss the Blackjack wind up as well (being able to hold it up)
I wish we could still KO alerted servants (instead of them just mocking us as they run away)
I really wish the BJ weren't so picky! Sometimes the AI will turn to be hit, but other times the hit just makes them mad!

Correct me if i'm wrong but i think the blackjack in the previous games is spikey as well. However it seemed to have fewer spikes and they were also "softer" barely seen actually, whereas in DS they're a lot more accentuated. I guess they wanted to make it look "cool" :nono:
Nope, completely flat. There are "light spots" on two sides of it, which are clearly visible when you look at it while it's right in front of the screen, but these are supposed to be worn patches in the material (whether it be wood or fabric, though the odd shape of it does suggest fabric, as it should be). It looks a lot better spinning in the bottom left corner, that seems to be about the distance the blackjack texture was actually meant to be viewed at.

I thought it was described in one of the thief manuals as basically a smooth stone in a sock. In the game it looks more like a "sap" which is a flat piece of leather with a lead weight sewn inside. I guess either way it does the trick. :thumb:

My old blackjack when I would hold the button down Garrett would say Uunh.
That sound bite was only heard with the sword. Holding the blackjack doesn't make any noise.

The ones you find around today are basically a solid metal core surrounded by a little leather tightly bound. I figured it to be rather like that.

They respawn in the city. Take my advice - sneak by them. Otherwise it's like Doom on Nightmare difficulty.
Are they respawning though, or just getting up later from being KO'd? I've noticed guards coming back, and after checking the KO'd one's, few were missing, as if they got back up.
They're probably right though. They're probably respawning and the KO'd one's vanish due to saving system resources.
Oops. Didn't check thread date. I'll blame Johnny! :cheeky:

I got used to the new blackjack, but just couldn't get the hang of that stupid dagger! Also; didn't seem to have enough $ to buy those climbing gloves til late in the game. Missed my rope arrows so very much. Seriously disappointing, that.
Respawn? (My kids do that on regular basis.) I had rather wondered about why I had to keep killing what seemed to be the same guards over and over again.
Now you tell me!
I plan on replaying TDS someday soon; up to the Cradle, of course. Nothing could make me go in there ever again. Except more respawing kids. ;)

Bah, by the time you reach the docks, the missions before that should've given you at least 2000 each...

I don't know about modern ones, but traditional blackjacks have been leather bags filled with small lead shot. Have you ever been hit in the head with a beanbag?

A sock full of sand works well too. And it's quickly disposable if you get caught. ;)
