Given that Parker and Stone have stated in DVD commentary for season ten that they hate Family Guy, it's not unreasonable to think that the staff for the other two shows at the very least dislike Family Guy.

Ditto henke.
Unless there is some other bit about FG in there, that's a stretch. And what have Parker and Stone's opinions got to do with other people's opinions? Pfffff.
As regards to FG being old now. I came to it late and I don't watch it regularly so it's still fairly new to me. And that video henke posted? That's one of the many things I like about it.

That hamburger comic thing may be the 2nd time Family Guy has ever made me laugh in the too-many-years it's been on the air. It's like it came from another show, it's actually funny.
2 funny jokes in 14 years. Not a good track record.
SubJeff on 9/9/2013 at 09:26
But it's like that all the time.

It really, really isn't.

Since when did people's opinions become facts which other people's lives should be based on?
This absolutism is not a great way to discuss stuff. Me or GTFO because article doesn't put a lid on a topic.

Oh Jesus. How can anyone take a piece seriously when the author honestly thinks that the Zero Dark Thirty joke was sexist?!
Family Guy is offensive? But South Park isn't? Ooooookay.
Nice strawman, but because I'm in a good mood I'll humor you.
There's a big difference between being offensive because you're dumb enough to think that offensive is synonymous with funny, and using offense to make a point which is usually what south park and the Simpsons do.
This copy-paste was written about their political preaching, but the underlying difference applies with just about every aspect of the two shows At no point does Family Guy have the slightest grasp of any writing concepts except a blatant, in your face "AHAHAH GET IT?!"
Quote:
With "South Park" you're almost always guaranteed a commentary about something involving the war, society, or religion through hilarious stories and great gags, but "Family Guy" cuts through all of the clever undertones and just blatantly breaks the fourth wall to preach to the audience. While I enjoy what they have to say about the FCC, and television monitoring, staring at the screen to preach is just sloppy. "Family Guy" will never be as clever as “South Park,” in fact they pretty much don't even attempt any subtlety and just place their characters together to chat about an issue while we watch. It's pathetic.
.
And from another commentator:
Quote:
Seth MacFarlane(creator of the show) seems to feel that he is the sole purveyor of wisdom on the entirety of television. He thinks he needs to show the world how stupid conservatives are via predictable plots involving conroversial subjects(immigration, abortion, vegetarianism, etc.). But the fact is that conservatives don't watch the show. They don't even care about it. The only thing that comes from Seth MacFarlane's attempts to show the world his intellect is another boring, predictable storyline that ends with Brian or Lois stating a view that they present as a fact. And, from this, his liberal 13-20something-year-old fanbase gets a smug sense of superiority and thoughts like, "Boy, I bet those conservatives are soooo pissed right now!"
Note: I am a liberal. I agree with almost every stance Seth takes on such issues. I just don't want to see 20 minutes of Republican-bashing presented as funny
Quote:
I've preferred American Dad for a while now. Less cut-away humour and fewer US culture references.
The reason American Dad is much funnier than anything else credited to Seth McFarlane is because he's got very little to do with the show, I've heard that he doesn't do much other than providing voices and that he does none of the writing.

Where's the strawman?
I like South Park and The Simpsons too. South Park is frikking hilarious, but to say the jokes are any less "offensive" than those in Family Guy is just silly. Mainly because neither of them are actually offensive, they just use edgy and black humour to lampoon stuff.
As to FG being as clever as South Park - HEY LETS MAKE EVERYTHING THE EXACT SAME BECAUSE DIVERSITY IN COMEDY IS BAD
Republican bashing?
Let me make this very clear to you; I do not give a flying fuck what anyone else thinks when I'm watching comedy. If this is a part of why you watch anything then you should not be allowed to ever watch anything again. And I mean that.
faetal on 9/9/2013 at 15:59
My take on FG is that it takes the piss out of absolutely everything. That said, the constant niche US culture referencing does make it tedious sometimes. That and the fact that I find the constant songs annoying. I've not watched it since series 8 I think because I've tended towards American Dad.

The strawman is that nobody has said one show is less edgy than the other. The point is that Family Guy beats you over the head with "See how crass we are! Isn't just just SO funny?!" whereas all the other competing shows have demonstrated the ability to use obscenities to creatively make a point or parody someting else.
edit: Tried to find a video to back up my point, but I wasn't able to locate it outside of the full episode. There's one where Peter and Lois are dressed up in Halloween costumes of George Bush and a dead guy that Pappa bush killed in a car wreck, which is portrayed as an interesting fact we all should know...and then a few minutes later there's a lady at the Halloween party dressed in an "aborted fetus" costume and it's made clear that we're supposed to think of her as a crazy lady.
It's tasteless, lacks any meaningful insight, and hypocritical to boot.
atio
FG frequently falls into the same trap that makes a LOT of American "comedy" suck......the writers think that the mere presence of something offensive is funny when in reality that's not the case. For example someone loudly passing gas on the street probably wouldn't elicit any laughs.....but put in a more ridiculous situation..
