I knew what it was, but only because of someone mentioning it on this board.
I don't think I know anyone in rl who would have a clue what the significance of 420 is, even those who have smoked or still do smoke weed.
Which was my point. Expecting everyone to know about every cultural, entertainment or internet phenomenon is ridiculous; especially something as niche as that. I'd rather know about the history of all the windmills on Majorca, seeing as I've just got back from there and found them fascinating.
But YMMV.

I assume the "international" weed day mostly means "American" weed day, and they assume everyone in the world knows every little detail about their country. Doesn't work the other way around though, when I was in Florida I met surprisingly many people who didn't know Finland is a country. "It's in Texas, right?" :)

This may just be a shot in the dark, but I'm guessing the low humour in Family Guy is supposed to be satirical. Stereotypes are funny precisely because of how stupid they are. making fun of those stereotypes isn't agreeing with them.
