Yes, and TFix and Tafferpatcher merely make the games run well on modern systems, while updating some textures and models if needed. They don't really improve the level design, or janky architecture in some places, if that's what you want.
Oh, and Deus Ex already has two mods for improving textures and models, though one of them is incomplete and will probably remain so: New Vision and HDTP.
GMDX often doesn't feature large scale level redesigns, there are some redesigning but GMDX mostly focuses on trying to tweak and improve the gameplay systems while making the game harder overall.

yes they do. a lot of work went into fixing up pretty much everything, architecture included. as mentioned earlier in the TFix topic, just because it's subtle, it doesn't mean it's not there.

I never noticed them doing that, hell just today I got stuck in some rocks in Craigscleft and I have my copy patched with TFix. I wanted the levels to be redone a lot, not just some small improvements here and there.

Yup, but with the story unchanged and the premise of each level being the same as in the original. Stuff like maybe Bafford's coin room being more well hidden, Bafford's main room being more lavish, a secret way into the throne room that's less obvious and more challenging etc.

A full on improvement mod like you mentioned isn't ever going to happen. OK well there's a 0.1% chance.
Think about it. You're proficient with dromed. Would you rather spend your time creating something fresh or "fixing" a series of old missions that aren't really that broken to begin with?
How many years ago was it that we got our mitts on the unfinished T2 Gold missions? To my knowledge nobody has actually done anything meaningful with them and released same. At least those would have held something new for a dev to sink his teeth into.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the idea. I've just been here long enough to know it ain't never gonna happen.

Cool idea! A potentially massive project, though. Not something I would have time to take part in right now, but it would be cool to see. Honestly I think it would be more cool to have more multi-author campaigns with their own stories, but that's kind of a given. If a team wanted to start this project I would definitely support it.

There was one attempt at recreating a Thief 2 Gold mission. Here: (

I didn't play it because I don't have Thief 2 right now, so don't know how good it is though. The screenshots do look nice.

Looks fantastic, guess I'll be playing Deus Ex again soon......:D
In the meantime I'm more than happy with Necrobob's mod, has brought a whole new life to all the older missions, so with that already available I really can't see much benefit to the community vs the huge amount of time that would go into such a project

It was based one one of the released T2 Gold missions, but the story and setting have nothing to do with the Thief 2 or Thief 2 Gold storyline. It's a completely standalone thing.
And that's all I'm going to say about that!
On a related note though, over the years I've thought a lot about doing what you're talking about. It would involve finishing the T2 Gold missions, incorporating them into the T2 storyline, and then going back through the rest of the OMs and adding more objectives, more objects, more AI, changing minor architecture where needed, etc. I wanted to add a alternate and maybe optional storyline to the game too, something that was more supernatural since T2 lacked that, something dealing with the necromancers and the Book of Ash. And then of course fix the Casing The Joint and Masks situation.
Anyway, that's a boatload of work, which is why it remains a bunch of pages of notes in MS Word and not an actual project.
