NEVER touch the Thiefstory!!!
It is OK as it is! Don't make a Deus EX or whatever mission out of it!
There're a lot of alternatives to play, but NEVER EVER change the Thief storyline!
I really mean that!!!
Gloria Creep
Hey, Gloria? Is it ok if I make a "Deus Thief" FM where Garrett is JC and the Deus Ex story is set in the Thief Universe? :joke: :laff:
Cammon! You can't tell me you wouldn't like to see the Page/Simons game intro with Karrass and the Trickster! Can you imagine Karrass as Bob Page!? With that nasal voice of his? :laff:
Or how about Benny as Gunther Hermann? :laff:
Who doesn't want to fight PSF (Pagan Secessionist Force) terrorist on Taffer Island under the ruined statue of Barony (as in THE Baron) for UCAPHF (United City Anti-Pagan Hammerites Force, or "You-cap-huff")? See Benny run around drunkenly with a sword attacking people? :laff:
Hey! Think we could get Eric Brosius to remake the Deus Ex title theme in Thief-style? :joke:
I'm beginning to think I should run for my life right about....now.

Does anyone know anymore about this ????
Yes, but the idea was so silly that when we discussed it last year that the discussion died quickly. I move this thread be grafted into the "Thief 4" sticky thread in Thiefgen where it belongs. Will anyone second that motion?

If ever there is another Thief (and there won't be..), I say keep it medieval. Garrett with a new batch of Keepers, and a secret plot against him in a battle for supremacy by one of his closest acolytes, that would be cool. Outwitting someone you personally trained to be as good as you, now that would be a Thief game.

a) this comes from an interview with Rob Dyer in 2004 before he left Eidos

I think we trusted in developers too much to tell us what the consumer wanted. That was a mistake. ... We like to pride ourselves on being developer friendly, but you can only go so far.
(re: Ion Storm and the resulting Thief 3 failure) A lot of times, we liked to believe that the developers on certain projects knew what they were doing. But a lot of time you need real business people in control. Otherwise you'll just be hemorrhaging cash.
Also I can't quite shake the feeling that the various rumours and "concept art" come from ex-Thief devs who were clowning around after work.
My prediction is that the next Eidos exec to suggest a new Thief, Deus Ex, or Backyard Wrestling title will find himself looking for a new job.

Dyer was only at Eidos for a short while anyway wasn't he? I seem to remember him being your typical management restructuring carpet bagger who goes from crisis to crisis and shakes everything up and then they pay him to go away.
dbrilliant on 12/1/2007 at 02:39
Ok, that does it. Dyer is out of his mind and there was a comment left on one of the articles about the midevil setting was not cool. Well now that person is a big panzy. I agree with all of you. I like the midevil setting if you ask me, and any future sequel is open to any kind of story. Even if Eidos didn't make this one, it doesn't mean that a real team of fm makers could team up and give us a 5-star fm. :thumb:

How is g4RR3Tt or whatever the hell the "hip" new concept character's name would have been even holding a gun and a duffle bag in the same hand? That would be a bit awkward. It's like they started with the concept and then just started drawing cool crap on him. They should have put in a mini satellite dish sticking out of his head.

It's pretty rough but judging by the thickness of the lines, I'd say he was holding a gun in the original sketch, but when they painted it, they turned it into a bag instead. Why... who knows?

Actually it would be great if they made a game where JC meets Garret.. say in 2060
Like Garret appears in 2060 and JC teaches him the ways of modern thievery...
smth like that would be great i think and.. just imagine those two in the field:
mj12 troop: we got company! ... ... we aint got weapons! where the *** are they??
