I'd have no reason to like it. All reasons for liking Thief
as a game would be gone.
True. It wouldn't be Thief. It'd be something else.

People have tried making Thief multiplayer mods for other games, and with the best will, they haven't caught on much. I wouldn't have a problem if they offered a Thief multiplayer co-op as an extra feature, but Thief as a game is all about the single-player. A Thief version of Quake III for me? Definite no-buy :)

How would it be different than any other multiplayer game? It wouldn't be anything that sets Thief apart from other games. It wouldn't be very Thiefy at all.
Why not?
You take complete mechanics/atmosphere of T1/2. Some clever map. Add maybe some traps/tools to make life difficult for other players. Goal is to infiltrate/steal going against the guards and one other player. Well, maybe two, but no more, it would be too chaotic. And thats it...
...you`re perched on some support beam, see another taffer sneak into the room, hiding in a corner because the guard goes past. You fire a noisemaker close to the guy...guard takes notice, maybe the guy`s quick enough to fire another noise arrow, maybe not and so on...
It could be you`d not even bump into each other, just disarm some fake loot traps, watch guards react from afar etc...
Of course it`ll never happen, due to...well, about everything. But it was a hypothetical exercise from the get go...

Bingo.
Okay, so a multiplayer-only Thief game isn't a good idea since so many established fans prefer the single-player aspect, but it would be a great additional option to a new game.
Thievery and T2 is about all we have at the moment and unfortunately nobodies playing it for some reason, guess i'll have to convince a few fans.

Definitely not. Such a notion is like something I would expect in a nightmare.

I hate playing against cheaters and MP games are ALWAYS full of cheats with aimbots (or whatever the Thief equivalent would be)
Aimbows?

The only way I would endorse Thieftmatch is if it was a mod or expansion, and/or the Thief Universe officially existed for the latest tech in the form of a proper Thief game first, if the MP was an official release, since I wouldn't personally get anything out of a Thief MP game.
