Ah, good old Mike Gambit!...
You have a point there, Sir, but I wrote "The Avengers" and not "The New Avengers", didn't I?

Any 1960's spy theme. Something like Dr. Strangelove, 007, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, The Saint, or Get Smart for that matter. Not specifically any of these though, since I would suspect they are all still protected with copyrights. Essentially the plot would be similar to a keeper mission, but set in 1960's motif. You have to solve all sorts of puzzles, get clues to achieve more the goals, and finally disarm an atom bomb. Maybe a time travel at the first of the FM.
I cannot recall the names, but there have been many FMs that have done something similar, especially the space FMs. None though have been intentionally "groovy". Throw in some hippies, mini-skirts, long hair, etc. Add in some Peter Gun type music and some jingle-jangle Birds type tunes for dramatic effect.
Maybe the Mechanists have evolved into the Atomists? Maybe Karras had, in a moment of weakness and banged up a whore. That kid's great grandchild has grown up to be a dude similar to Dr Evil. He has reformed what was left over of his great-great grandfather's Mechanists into the Atomists and wishes to rule the world, of course after destroying 99.999% of its population with his bombs. Garret's job is to stop him. Something like that. :cheeky:

Manic Miner or Jet-Set Willie.
This, so much this, doubly so for Jet Set Willy!
The JSW setting is perfect: A gigantic mansion where the manor lord (i.e. you) have just had a long talk with the toilet about how much you had to drink in your party last night. As much as you want to hit the sack and sleep off the hangover, your housekeeper Maria won't let you into the bedroom until you clean up the place and gather all the valuables, which are EVERYWHERE. So off you go, trotting through the manor, only to realize that:
# Most of the party guests haven't left yet.
# Most of the guests aren't even human.
# Someone seems to have left their...uhm..."transport" parked on top of the mansion.
# You REALLY could use a drink. (Fortunately there's an off-license just down the street.)
# There's something creeping up in the attic.
# There's something evil and unholy stirring in the basement...
Jet Set Willy turns 30 this year, so honoring it with a Thief FM would be a brilliant idea!

Do yourself a favor and watch "Curse of the Pink Panther" - it's worth it alone for the fact how revealing a mud bath can be... :cheeky:
Alas, my heart belongs to Rigg. And to Shahi in Person of Interest! (I have a big heart)

It would work incredibly well, IMHO, which is why I mentioned The Avengers. Of course it's clear that copyright still limits that one can do (*especially* the Bond franchise as there were several games about him in the past) - but of course the thread title question is what it is.
What one can do, realistically, can be seen in the "No One Lives Forever" first-person-shooter series - which not only cleverly plays with all those 60ies spy chlichees but is often genuinely funny - at least the first game in the series with main character "Cate Archer". The second one was a bit too much and often less atmospheric and "Contract J.A.C.K." is a total loss of time and money. It literally proved the truth of the series title.
All elements are present in this series: See this (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6pMEyeC3hM) review for a good overview.
Back then I was heavily in FPS and when I realized that my old Voodoo card didn't cut it anymore with the first "NOLF" I instantly bought a "Geforce 2 Pro" and got twice the frame rates (it was four times as expensive, though :cheeky:).

I read the thread title as "Game Show" and the first thing I thought of was "Wheel of Fortune."
Sorry, I'm not very smart. :p
