Now goes up to 50. Quite unsure on alot of these. Suikoden 2 being better than Mass Effect 2? Hmm. Chrono Cross even making it in the list. Not seen a mention of Eye of The Beholder, Arc The Lad or .hack yet. I have a feeling that KOTOR will be towards the end but time will tell.

I love worthless arbitrary top 100 lists that serve only to stir up "controversy" and rack up hits and ad revenue! More!

I like them occasionally, just for the "Remember when?" element. I also don't give much of a damn about a) all of my favourites being on there and b) agreeing with the ranking, which makes them much more palatable. When people get all worked up and super-serious about them, I think the problem's usually with the people and their lack of a sense of proportion, not the Top 100 lists.

Same here. The order isn't why I read them - I just like hearing about games as I'll occasionally hear about something I didn't know about which sounds good.

I haven't played any of the Suikoden games, but given what I know of its reputation I'm not surprised to see it rated above ME2.

Are there any RPGs that get all the different facets right? I like the genre, but it's so diverse that some its individual representatives couldn't be more different, and most games focus on one or two aspects pretty much to the exclusion of others. Are there any games that combine the living, open world of an Ultima VII with character building and tactical combat à la Fallout, the party interaction of Planescape Torment and the production values of a Skyrim?

Baldurs Gate maybe. KOTOR 1 & 2 fits alot of those also.
Jason Moyer on 13/9/2012 at 15:27
Baldur's Gate 1 does everything at least moderately well, and it's the only Bioware game that was basically open world. Even the second one was mostly long streches of linear dungeon crawling and very limited access to a handful of map areas.
Fallout New Vegas hits all of those checkboxes, it actually hits them all about as well as you can, although the combat isn't what you probably mean by tactical.

Definitely not. More "lets shoot this and watch it disintegrate into bits. Yay". Not that I was complaining.
