Played Thief, thought it was alright but too ugly, walking voodoo dolls.
Played Thief 2, uninstalled after 1.5 missions, way too esoteric.
Played Thief 3, enjoyed it.
The devs moved the series to a compromising midpoint where a new player would be able to make heads-n-tails of the game, the difficulty increases acceptably gradual, glint for helping to spot crap in god-forsaken darkness, and hopefully finish the game.
I can't disregard the low points in T3 either, like the frame rate, the segmented hubs, and the loading, it's not perfect but I know I enjoyed it much more than Thief 2.

You're right, I wouldn't play Thief if I have to squint my eyes in total darkness like an idiot. Master thief? Yeah right; can't even tell loot from junk without having to get grabby with them paws.
Well, as has been said. If the loot and junk were properly textured, there would be absolutely no need for loot glint. It's silly to have such a thing on higher difficulty settings...and even if the models were textured properly, it would be far less silly to have given the loot items a 'slight' glow, so they would stand out from regular items. Being subtle has its merrits.

Compromising midpoint where a new player would be able to make heads-n-tails of the game? Heh, well good luck playing Dark Mod then. :laff:

Thank you, NH. Now I don't have to threaten to smack him (no offense, Jashin). ;)
How is a new player ever going to improve from just playing TDS?? There's
no flippin' challenge there! You need to reload T2 & try again; really. It really wasn't esoteric, ya know. I heartily disagree with you on that point. Try T2 once more, 'k?
Let me come over & I'll help.

Wow! Now that is consistent. So you call the AI from T1 "vodoo dolls' but at the same time you enjoyed TDS, which has AI walking around is if somebody rammed a stick up their ass? You must have weird standards, because the very first thing, that jumped into my eyes was, how extremly unnatural the TDS AI moved around. Sure you get used to it after some time ...
And I'm not even talking about the rubber ragdolls. At leas the name is fitting, because they really were RAG dolls.

What you consider to be a "midpoint" is considered to be substandard by others. That's life.

Well, the framerate is really one of the least important concern. At least this can be fixed by a faster system. Design errors, bad artistic style, watering down and XBox dilution can not be cured by anything.

T2 was as estoeric as wiping after taking a crap. There is no great mystery involved for anyone who takes the time to learn.

Ah, come on! What do you expect form a generation of people, that require a laughter in the background for every half assed joke, made in a TV show, to tell them when something was humorous. A big yellow arrow pointing at the next target, this is what is called being subtle by now.
T-Smith on 20/2/2006 at 22:36
Don't even mention laugh tracks. They piss me off more then the turret room in Soulforge, or trying to get into the Alurus Extension through that tiny hole in the wall.

Wow. I think you must have gotten lost here on your way to the Doom forums or something...

You still haven't caught on??
You should be able to tell YOURSELF what is loot and what is not by examining it closely - you should see gold plating, gems, etc. You can do this in Thief 1 and 2 and you'd know this if you didn't quit after 1.5 levels. You should play through the entire game before you form an opinion on it. Esoteric? Only from your limited view of games.
Thief 3 is a good game in its own right but you can't resonably defend loot glint - it was a patch-on feature to cover up the fact that they didn't actually make the objects look any different.

That's right, there are people in the world who can't get into thief2. A lot of them. Rude awakening for ya?
I'll take the advice of a few others and give it another try in a few days.

Or, since there's glint, there's no need to make them look different. Honestly, texturing a couple of plates and chalices isn't very hard.
The hubs in T3 could've been much better, but the game does have good levels and definitely has its moments.
Why don't you darkmod people make a better hub city then?
