I really want a climbing gloves for Lost City, the lava-filled town... I don't know how I'm gonna to make a return trip... I was heard about a bunch of Fire elements will be chasing me...

The climbing gloves (even if a lot of people say it's a step back on the volution ladder) seem to be realistic than rope arrows IMO. It's easyer to have somegloves that will stick to rock than to make an arrow than springs 20 meters of rope out of nowhere.

The Thief universe is NOT realistic.
Have to get rid of all the arrows except regular broadheads if you want realistic. Also get rid of almost all the tools - mechanical flashbombs, proximity mines, zoom lens eye, scouting orb, etc. And lose all the magic enemies, all the monsters, giant spiders, ape beasts, etc. No more glyph magic, no potions of any sort (speed, heal, slowfall, invisibility). There's probably a dozen other things you'd have to axe from the game as well.

mo I'm talking about keeping it to some degree realistic. crystal are crystals, but a 20 meter rope comming from a simple arrow is a bit too much IMO

Hehe, yeah, rope arrows are highly unrealistic, but they are one of my fave arrows from the game. Just love the satisfying 'thud' when they hit a wooden surface. I alway's used to try and finish missions using as little as possible from my Inventory. Damn, I need to re-install everything right now and get me some Thief'y goodness!

as i've said before, climbing gloves offer a different method of climbing than ropes- and if implemented properly, both can be useful for different situations. example, the rope arrow could get you places you couldn't go with the gloves, and vice versa.
not to mention that there's a kind of intimacy with the wall that the climbing gloves have, if you're in first person. and i like that.

Those zombies sound kind of spooky when they first rise, but when they start walking towards, they actually sound like old hound dogs. I'm almost certain I've even heard the VA who did the zombie noises playing a dog before. :D

Actually, I was informed that flashbombs *are* real. Not, exactly in that form, of course. But, the basic idea.
I have not done a lot of research on this for myself at this point. . .I keep forgetting when I have a moment. . .but they are called (the slang term, I assume?) 'flashbangs' and emit a very bright flash of light and a very loud bang that essentially blinds and deafens the recipients for a period of time. They're something used in the military.
Of course, like I said, I have not dug around for acurate data on this yet, but my source is fairly reliable, and has not played Thief, and was able to tell me the basics of how these things worked.
Just an interesting tidbit. . .if someone's after realism, you don't have to suggest taking flashbombs out. :D
On another note. . .why do people find climbing gloves more 'realistic' than rope arrows? Personally, I find it hard to believe that a man, never mind a woman, could climb that far using just his fingers. Spiderman? Yeah, right, spider or no, his fingers could not handle that weight! You'd need almost stickies on your shoes, and possibly knees too to get enough leverage to pull your weight off the ground, never mind just using your fingers. Personally, I find ropes a lot easier to swallow. In a world where magic exists. . .the rope arrows are no more difficult to believe than the elemental crystals at the end of the arrows, though I have yet to explain (even to myself) how they manage to support a man's full weight just by slamming into some wood. :) Magic or no, I'd think they'd have to be stronger than an arrow. But, yeah, I can definitely believe the arrows better than the gloves. Not to say I did not like climbing around with those things while playing the game. But anyway. . .

I know flashbangs are real in our high tech world. We also have security cameras, wireless video signals, modern hydrolic robotics, etc. All of these elements in the Thief world are not realisitic in that setting is the point

Instead of rope arrows we could just have vine arrows, but modifed so that they grow into wood too, not just metalic grates. That would fit more into the thief universe if you ask me (better than rope arrows anyway)
