And before anyone suggests I do a search or check the FAQ, I already did that.
The search was useless, and I can't get into the FAQ. Keeps denying me access for some stupid reason.
Anyhoo. I'm running Windows XP and I'd like to be able to play Thief 2.
There was a really good exe file (named thief2fixed.exe, I believe) that worked beautifully on my machine. I thought I had saved it, but apparently my machine deemed it necessary to make me 'think' I had saved a copy while not.
Can anyone help me out?

We do not be providing the Thief2 fix the Direct3D Texture error because it bypasses copy protection.
I recommened you open up the file <i>user.cfg</i> from the Thief directory using Notepad and remove the semicolon (<b>;</b>) from the start of the line <i>;safe_texture_manager</i> and then save the file.

What do you need it for? The D3D NVIDIA thing? You don't need a fixed exe for that. You can remove the ; from the ;safe_texture_manager in the user.cfg. All the fixed exes and such can be found (
http://www.thief-thecircle.com/media/patches/) here. You should take a nap. You sound grumpy.

It's that simple, hmm? Thank you.
And about the nap. I have been needing them, thanks. But considering some of the nasty remarks I've read towards people just asking for assistance, I think I was rather polite.

Oh. And to let you know...
deleting the ; worked.
:) Thanks muchly.

Your hesitation is well-placed taffergirl, though if your name reflects your gender, any abuse would be surprising. The barbs are usually saved for the boys.

I wish I still found that deletion of the semicolon helpful.
Perhaps after I reinstall the game.
I'll keep you posted.

As I'm sure you're well aware, the removal of the semicolon will only fix the texture management problem, not the cd check problem. You'll need to look elsewhere for that.
btw, wasn't there a bug in the patch for Thief 2, which screwed up the cd validation? I know people keep saying "no to nocd-check" stuff, but in this case... you almost need it.

To fix that texture reporting glitch, use the skip_starting_checks option in your user.cfg file
