I finished it :)
I admit, it was much better than when I played Thief 1 a decade ago. Yes, I liked how there was a mission for each talisman.
I didn't like the Mages Towers, but I did like the Opera house.
A great experience.

I too am playing it for the first time. I hae been playing T2 since about 2004, but never bought T1 or Gold until this last November. I am playing it on and off, so I have not completed the campaign. I'm in the Opera house now.
I could not get TGt to install onto WinXP, so I used TFix to load it. It is playing just fine, with very few glitches. Overall, I like the story and think it is better than T2. After completing Gold, I will try out the many T1 and TG FMs that I have never been able to play. I'll need to see how to do this with some research and hopefully will not have to ask :joke:
Generally, I agree with your observations and opinions about the game, Bugarian_Taffer. The mage mission was a bit tedious, but I enjoyed some parts. I am taking the easy way though and playing on normal/easy. I'm also occasionally taking out guards with the sword if cornered. Not my normal style, but I am just trying to get through the game for a first run. One thing I have to say is none of the missions really stand out as great to me yet. Fun? Yes, but none are exceptional. I guess I am just super spoiled from excellent T2 FMs.
Last thing is that I have had a lot of "A HA!!!" moments. "Hey, I have been here before..." has been running through my mind. I didn't know until now that quite a few T2 FMs were based upon T1/TG maps.

Actually, Thief is a game you have to replay at least once a year.

Have to? I went eight years between my 2003 and 2011 playthroughs of the first Thief, and nine years between my 2004 and 2013 playthroughs of Thief II. I suppose I deserve to spend a night in the Cradle for this :)
