Also: Demon's Souls? You need to have at least some trace of masochism in you to enjoy the game.

It seems a bit flawed. My main motivation when playing almost any game is to see what happens next, both in terms of the story, and discovering new areas, gameplay etc. I don't level up my character so he can shoot fireballs because I have some deep psychological love of flames. I do it to see what it's like, and because in the context of the game, I believe it will make it easier for me to progress to new content.
The closest match on that questionnaire is "To seek and enjoy sensuous impressions such as pleasurable sights" but that doesn't really cover it.
Unless they genuinely think people play RPGs cause it will get them laid, they aren't referring to your motivations, as a player. Rather, they've got to mean in-character motivations that motivate you. Are you more likely to respond to a need to save a small chilld, or to get your 10 million monies and a blinged out sword for your character?
Though, including 'keeping a tidy inventory' makes me wonder about that.
Either way, this is a confusing, and thus shitty survey.

I think the questions were interesting, but the possible answers confusing / unfitting. Like the atonement, one, I cant qualify it on a not-important to important scale. But it does make me think of cases in games where I felt "guilty". Or rather, when I didn't.
This makes me think of a thread I was going to start that kinda goes into how playing RPGs is so completely different than what real life rational behavior would have you. Hmm I might just start that thread in a bit... :p

Which, in itself, implies that everyone actually role-plays when playing role-playing games, rather than just choosing the best-looking stats to get to the credits.

I object. Titties should never be covered.

zing!
But I guess we cant have our "role playing" without the "game." We can see how successful interactive fiction has been.
