dewdrop is a boy ,says so in thief 2 when the pagan girl ghost tells you about him/you find dewdrop for the first time in that hut,the girls name is lilly aka minnow=her nickname,birch is the fathers name and i forgot the mothers name if it is even in game might be in a book not sure,the mission is "trail of blood"

the reason why his name should not be changed is cause dewdrop is very important to the thief cannon,i could say dewdrop is the only magical item you get in all thief games,but the reasons are many and to many to list them all

if you have dewdrop and run across 2-3 mechinest his powers will activate causing the mechinest to be blinded for a short time,he also can be us to trigger traps i think as in mines/etc
one time he was vital to a pressure plate as the last item i had to make the pressure plate go down
the creator of dewdrop is a mystery but if i had to guess it would be one of the mages who was once a hammerite and got mad when karras left the hammers and made dewdrop out of spite
dewdrop can also be used to keep a door open
gloria knows how powerful dewdrop is also :)
dewdrop also give amazing luck in a missions just having him makes all missions easyer
