Look at your responses, and you call yourselves fan?
Get it straight: The franchise is not made just for you hardcores. I feel that ISA did the best thing possible in its position to adapt to changing times while maintaining the thief-style of atmosphere and gameplay.
If they wanted a quick buck why the hell would they make a Thief game?

Just answered yourself there chum.

to take things further than is possible with the T3 tools and create what we all feel a 'logical' evolution of Thief 1 and 2 would have looked, and played on a modern engine.
I'm droolin' on meself again. :p

Yes, because TDS did so well.
Well, maybe if Warren and the boys weren't just trying to milk the core audience and cash in on their devotion to the series, perhaps the game could have been a more pure experience. However; Thief was the absolute wrong franchise to cheapen with this type of strategy.

Yes because Looking Glass Studios didn't make the game for money at all.
Not to mention the fact that LGS was coming up at a time when the crpg was scene was at full momentum. One of LGS's first big breaks was working under Richard Garriot. I do believe that this opened many doors to the concepts of Thief itself. For all we know, the "Keepers" may very well have been designed around MM's "Ancients" or JVC, Richard, and possibly even Andrew! LGS had a *lot* to prove to the existing industry at that time. Title after title, they strived and succeeded in creating classic gaming experiences, almost always barely hanging in there finacially. It must have been hard for them to watch titles like Might and Magic and Ultima continue to reap huge rewards, let alone dealing with the success of Doom!
Oh well, I never even played Doom, and Thief will *always* be a huge part of my crpg catalogue. Except Thief III, of course. :)

I liked Thief3 . It wasn't as challenging as 1&2, nor was it ground breaking like 1 was... But The Cradle part was downright creepy.
It was a nice try, and not too bad for people who really didn't understand what Thief was about.
I'm waiting for more FMs for T3, Krellek was outstanding. FMs might redeem T3 yet.

Well, I still feel that "Thief III" for PC was really for console. It wouldn't have been that thard for the designers to make two different "versions" of the game. Such as less bling, no re-spawns, a unique user interface a.k.a. Minimalist, no Load Zones!!!! Just to name a few. It felt like a console port. However; the fan base was PC. I just wish I would have played the console version first! Could have been a different story. The Missions, though, were very true to Thief but had console related limitations.

With all T3 gameplay downers, we are lucky it has so many possibilities for re-configuration. It's as if the devs were avare that old PC fans won't be satisfied with this and that, they made things as they were expected to, to appeal "bosses above", but they left us many CFG/INI files opened for editation. So we can change almost every feature.
Thanks them for that. Not all A-class games are so easily adaptable.

Most games have config files you can edit. Thief 3 is one of the least configurable games out there.

Looking at how long the TDS Tweak Guide thread is, I'd say there are far more options to tweak than an average user ever tries to, or will be interested in tweaking.

The fact that Tim Stellmach didn't work on the project combined with Randy's unprecedented departure made me nervous about the product right away.

C'mon, taking in account the circumstances it wasn't that bad. Could have been much worse and you know it! Of course there are minor things I'm complaining about, but in the end I'm telling myself "it's as good as it could have been". I think fans should be more grateful. Many skilled people have put much effort and invention into this baby, and if they've made something generally not well accepted by the community, they made it, because they were told to make it so. In the end you can't satisfy everyone's tastes.
