I posted this originally in r/Thief. If this does not meet the guidelines for this forum I apologize and will remove it.
Ive been following the Thief IP with interest. Its a shame the movie is going to be shit out in 3 years as a straight to dvd piece of drek.
Ive recently come into some spare time and would like to put my efforts to use. Im a literature student and I tend to write quite a bit. Id like to write a qausi treatment using the characters and setting of the Thief universe.
What I would like to do differently is this - Id like to stay faithful to the source material that Thief itself drew upon (Goethe, Fritz Lang, Kafka) and extrapolate the themes of Thief that make it so cutting. In preparation for this task Ive reread texts by Engels and Marx on alienation and naturalism.
My view is that Thief is inherently anti establishment - and by extension it is anti ideology. I want to put into writing the world where dread and paranoia pervade and Garrett's apathy is juxtaposed with his predestination.
My question for you is whether there would be interest in collaborating on this work or simply following its progress. I intend to write this notwithstanding; I couldn't help but ask.

Is this a late April Fool's joke or something? Who are you? Oh and welcome to the forums by the way.

thanks for the welcome.

Has there been news on the movie lately? I haven't heard anything recently, there was some murmuring about 6 months ago.
Btw, I think it's a bit of stretch to say Thief has been commercialized.

Yeah theres a better word for it im sure. But you guys essentially know what I mean. its either in development hell or being bled dry of all creativity and inspiration.
Im not talking about doing fanfic - im seeing if theres anyone here who wants to give the original thief(s) story a go.

There's like 0.0000000000000000001% of chance that there will be a Thief movie based on the original series. Like, if we get that, it's pure luck. Otherwise expect yet another retelling of the original, or worse, a movie based on the reboot. Or a tie-in with the sequel to the reboot which is probably in the works. Or else it's just to advertise the franchise in the movie industry but the movie itself will take like forever to release. Or in fact, it may never release.

I have no idea what your writing style is like, but the concept has the potential to turn into something interesting - at least in itself to begin with. At the same time, it also has the potential to end up as a lot of quasi-intellectual bullshit taking itself way too serious. Either way, be prepared to debate your choices if you decide to post your progress here. Some will probably want to wait and see if you are actually willing to put in the work and go through with it before they comment, though.

How dare anyone attempt to commercialize a commercial product. Harumph!

Hey, if you re-read Engels and Marx before attempting to write something down about Thief, it has to be interesting. And far from being serious.
