EDIT
Never mind. Jumped in way too late.

Jadon, that dude is openly condoning the attacks by identifying with one of the killers. That's totally not the same thing as drawing a satirical cartoon, it's textbook hate speech... Especially when you tie that to a history of antisemitic remarks and a marked fondness for racist ideologies (he's very linked to the far right and the Front National party).

So his opinion should be outlawed, and he should be prosecuted for speaking it?

Yes.

There is a fundamental difference between trolling and calling for bloody murder.
The cartoons are childish and offensive but there's nothing behind it other than doing it "for the lulz". Do I agree? No. Should it be outlawed? No. Being stupid is not a crime.
On the other hand you have someone saying "haha you would totally look better DEAD and I wish I could make it happen and I'm glad someone actually went on and massacred your people. " This is not stupid, this is supporting and condoning hatred and calling for more attacks. Do that, well don't be surprised if your ass is going to jail, and rightfully so.

I'm afraid that right now our government will take silly measures to watch us on the internet, to read our personal e-mails for instance, even easily. And that recent event is a good excuse to make false, liberticidal decisions.
As if the fanatics are told to do their bloody job via the internet..... Come on.... What we need is good investigating teams on the field.... in the real world.

So anyone reading this thread months or years from now won't have to use their psychic powers to know WTF fortuni is talking about:
(
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-30710883) Gun attack on French magazine kills 12
Thanks man. Was useful even a week after the thread got made. :thumb:
Sad though, that this kind of shit is still happening. Why France? Is it cause they lived there and just wanted to kill some random people and excuse themselves with some religion BS or what? I don't follow the news much.
Is this France specific? Is it cause they invite multiculturalism cause they're tolerant and all? If so maybe they should stop doing that, since there are retards like this.
Oh well, careful, french taffers. You never know what can happen when demented humanoids get a hold of technology beyond their comprehension (like guns).

Although they never threatened anyone with violence, Charlie Hebdo has a track record of anti-Muslim bigotry. It may be easy to laugh off the cartoons since they weren't directed at you, but I'm pretty sure it looks like hate speech to all the Muslims. They have a point regarding the biased enforcement of hate speech laws. Not that it justifies the attacks or anything. But it makes me think that the people aren't really rallying around free speech after all.

Exactly, this provides a ready excuse for governments to increase censorship and surveillance.

Aaaaaand this is where you're wrong. Charlie Hebdo never targeted Muslims, they targeted either religious fanatics or the Front National's skewed views of Muslims.
