Wow long thread.. heya .. new here. Just had a couple ideas that might work for characters that i dont think have been brought up yet
Garrett _
1. I can see George Cloony playing the role .. Pop in From dusk till dawn and listen to the way he spoke and how he spoke.. " ...You be cool" Very powerful lower voice.
2. Johney Depp. Why i picked him if ya watch em in From Hell, 9th Gate, Sleepy Hallow.. notice how he can play a period role DAMN good. I think he would do that part justice .. well maybe if he played the game.
As much as i think Viggo would be great, yes in Bree when he appeared i thought the same thing.. Holy sheet its Garrett, I dont know if it would be the best to cast him the same way.. the true fans of both LotR and Thief would not really beleive him as Garrett and only the LoTR folks would not see past Iseuldor. /shrug .. perhaps i am wrong just one of those type cast things.
3. Prolly the best choice would be Unknown actor Garrett.. hell has anyone ever seen the Voice guy.. whats his name.. who knows maybe .. just maybe HE could pull it off.. ya know he has got the voice for it.
Viktoria
1. For some reason i can seem to get Goth/wiccan type roles out of my head.. Prolly the whole Druidic thing. but I can see Angalinga Jolie ( sorry can spell it .. ya know Tomb Raider, Hackers girl)
2. Farusa Baulk Played in the Craft as the evil one and in the waterboy.
3. Marisa Tome.. ok she would not work for this role, but My Cousin Vinny /drool
As for the other characters.. it would help to know if they are going to stick to the story of the game or come up with a new period .. maybe Pre Theif 1 or Post theif 3. Hell put Sean Connery in it somewhere, anywhere.. its bound to be good cause its, well Connery. Maybe as a Keeper or perhaps put em in as an evil role as a Hammerite Leader sort of Garrets Arch nemisis during the whole movie etc etc.
Well before i try and pound out a script that will for sure get me stoned by half the forum i will digress.. Back to making another thief 2 FM
Good Gameing!!

How about Garrett experiences SHAS after 47 minutes of movie. :p
Atleast the ending would be different than expected.

This Topic made me join, so, here we go!:cheeky:
The Actor is just one part of the process, to me, the people behind the scenes make the movie what it is.
There aren't many directors who could pull of the visual style of the games, but those who I'm thinking of are the cream of the crop!
Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Hannibal, Alien, Blade Runner)
Sam Mendes (Americain Beauty, Road to Perdition)
David Fincher (Se7en, Panic Room, Alien 3, Fight Club)
All there flims (at least to me anyway) have the same dark, claustrphobic brooding atmosphere that Theif NEEDS if it is to succeed.
David Fincher is a very Techical director, knows how to edit, knows his cameras etc, fantastic atmosphere's in his flims.
Sam Mendes, only done two flims but won Best Director Oscar for AB. But just LOOK at the Cineamaptogarphy (god knows how to spell that) it's bad luck Conrad L Hall died after completing RTP because he would have been top choice for Director of Photragphy.
Ridley Scott needs know intro, a very arty director, just think Maximus from Gladiator stepping into the arena with the rose petals and sunlight coming down onto him, rose petals in the final fight also, the hand over the corn etc.
OUTSIDE CHOICES FOR DIRECTORS CHAIR:
Steven Soderburgh (sp) (The Limey, Traffic, Oceans 11)
Tony Scott (Enemy of the State, Spy Game, True Romance)
Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings)
Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, The Beach)
UNDER NO CIRCUMSATNCES:
Paul WS Anderson (Mortal Kombat 1&2, Resident Evil, Soldier)
Currently wrecking Aliens Vs Predator
If Steven Speilberg is the Light in Hollywood, Anderson is all that is evil and dark.
ACTORS:
Christopher Eccleston (28 Days Later, Gone in 60 seconds)
Robert Patrick (X-Files, Terminator 2)
Stephen Russell
Robert Downey Jr
Damien Lewis (Band of Brothers, DreamCatcher)
I say Damien Lewis because he just reminds me of him, he's also and up and coming superstar in his own right, ALthough he's Ginger you can die his hair.
Christopher Eccleston would be one of my top choices, a fantastic charcter actor and has the right look, the only living person who really closlesy resmbles Garret without any make-up needed.
I also believe it should be an unknown actor, think, Tobey McGuire was pretty unknown until Spiderman...
It's pretty clear Eidos are going for Money over Quality, (Seabiscuit was a suprise hit starring Tobey), I can here Paul WS coming down the corridor now...
If it has to be a known Hollwood Actor then:
Viggo
Hugh Jackman
Robert Downey Jr
Problem with Viggo is we are all thinking of the Prancing Pony scene in FOTR, thereby typecasting him.
Before I go for Vicky itt has to be Monica Belicci (sp) and/if Constantine Ian Holm.
Lance Henriksen (sp) (Bishop from Aliens) has to be a Keeper as does Dustin Hoffman
The only place for Tobey is the young keeper in Thief II.
JODAN!
PS: the Zombies would have to go for this flim to stand any chance.
jattmon on 18/11/2003 at 16:23
has anybody got a picture of stephen russell?, i mean after all its his voice that makes garrett so cool, eidos should look into him first before any other actor, please dont put tobey or edward norton in this movie, all ed nortons characters one dimensional, hes very over rated, just because hes been in high profle movies.
Jhonny depp for garrett
monica bellucini for viktoria
anthony hopkins for constantine
gary oldman for truart
above are the ultimate actors, all very experienced, all would problably work well for the creativity of the movie
jhonny depp has made a comeback from slump peroid, now hes mature enough to play better parts, his acting ability is perfect, though with these stars the movie would cost too much to make, maybe they could be persuaded by the script??? ;)
THE OMEGA CODE!!!!
THE END IS NEAR!!!!!

You view it from the wrong perspective, Tannindegaffer. Honestly, have you known any big fans of Viggo, Orlando, etc. etc.? Millions of crazed fangirls saw Pirates of the Caribbean simply because Orlando was in it and they loved him in The Lord of The Rings dulogy (:p)(soon to be trilogy). They don't give a taff whether he isn't dressed up like Legolas and has long blonde hair. They wouldn't care if he were playing an entirely different part. They love him, and they will see anything he's in. So they couldn't go wrong to cast Viggo as Garrett. When it comes down to it, us fans will let the Lord of the Rings thing go and continue seeing movies the actors appear in if we think their acting was 'up to snuff' to begin with. This is big and will probably be remembered as big, but not as big as Star Wars where 'Leia' and 'Luke' can't get any other parts because they're remembered as just that; Leia and Luke. It's weird just to see an older movie with Elijah Woods (Frodo) or Sean Astin (Sam) or even Christopher Lee (Saruman) in it as I'm so used to them in their LOTR garb and personalities, and yet I doubt this will be so cemented actors won't be able to get parts afterwards. That idea has already been displaced. Anyway, just my thoughts; and I honestly don't think the LOTR fans would care. If you go to TORN (TheOneRing.net) you'll see countless announcements of this actor or that actress from LOTR in a movie that has nothing to do with Tolkien. After a while I'm sure it'll pass and they might only announce movies with Elijah, Viggo, Ian, the big names, but it just goes to show how much support they/we have for the actors in non-LOTR parts.
jattmon, there's a very smallish picture floating around somewhere. I know others have it, but I probably have it somewhere too. It seems old, but I don't think as charismatic or drop dead sexy as some of us were expecting from his voice. Oh well :nono: :laff:.
As suggested earlier, they could always dub it. I doubt they would if it were a mainstream affair (the movie makers could care less about staying true to the game or giving screen Garrett the same-ish voice), but it would be nice to just have basically a 'body double' and Stephen Russell behind it all :ebil:
deadman.

I kinda doubt this will go through without more information on the subject. I mean...how many times have we been promised game movies? American McGee's Alice, Half-Life, Max Payne, Doom, Duke Nukem at one point...all speculation, no action.

Another good story would be the fall of the Hammerite Cathedral. Thats always been a really cool story (I especially like the short story by Octopus). That would be a really good story leading up to the first game. It could start with how the Hammerites find the Eye, then things get wierder and wierder towards the end, till the dead start rising and the great fight begins. Then the end could be the Keepers sealing the Cathedral, and the Eye screaming vengence, then the final thing before the credits would be some kind of Keeper Prophecy about Garrett (or possibly the Trickster).
That's one of the best story ideas I've heard so far.
If this DID go through, I too would love to see it done in the CGI of the game's cutscenes or have Garrett's voice dubbed into whatever actor plays the part. But really, I think Thief would work better as an episodic TV show than a movie. Maybe 15 min for each episode at that.

Hey, some people are able to excape the LOTR typecast (and have made successful movies since,) while others actually revel in it for what it can bring. Look at Ian McKellen. He did Gandolf, but he also took over as the head master in Harry Potter, and he goes further into satisfing his geek fans by playing Magneto in the X-Men movies. The guy was already a tremendously acomplished actor. Now he is just getting the commercial recognition he deserves thanks to geeks like us willing to see the next movie he will be in.
PS Anthony Hopkins and Ian McKellen studied at the same acting school. For the life of me, I can't remember what it is. Not really important, just an interesting fact. Kind of funny, too: Two classicly trained actors, trained in Shakespeare and Renaissance style acting, and one is now best known as a Mutant that plays a lot of Wizards, and the other is best known as a face eating cannibal. Beautiful.

He did nothing of the sort. That was fairly lame rumour. Dumbledore's role was taken over by Michael Gambon.
And I wouldn't call wanting Viggo Mortensensen in the part 'type casting', since 'momentary guy in a hood' parts aren't the sort of thing he's done a lot of to my knowledge.
Anyway, you're all so wrong still. Michael Wincott is the only somewhat known guy who could really do Garrett justice on all fronts

edit: also, has there ever been a good movie based on a game? At all? :(
No, I don't. And IMDb has a blank slate regarding it. The Z review (thezreview.co.uk) lists it as forthcoming, based on Doom III.
On a side note, the IMDb lists Doom III's subtitle as "The Legacy"...err.. maybe not, it's kind of confusing.
