I thought it was a rumor until I saw Ian Mckellen joking around about it on the Daily Show. Or maybe Conan O'Brian. I don't know for sure.

This is unlikely to ever happen. It is well known that movies based on videogames NEVER fare well...save for the rather poor Lara Croft films.
And for each one that has been released, there are fifty or so that have never surfaced.
Metroid, Perfect Dark, Eternal Darkness; they all have something in common - they had movies proposed but they never even began filming, perhaps they never even began writing.
And let's face it, Thief isn't exactly a well-known blockbuster title, is it? It's one of the most criminally underrated games in history. Eidos will realise that they need to make a movie about a more popular game licence.
So let us not panic about the possibility of a thief movie. And if it came out, wouldn't you go and see it anyway?

Just because Hugh Jackman is cool as Wolverine doesn't mean that he would be good as Garrett. He just doesn't strike me as very Garrett like.

1) Garret: Hmmm tough choice with all the things thrown out but I would say Bruce Campbell I mean he's the only real smart ass actor on the list I mean The evil dead movies ruled
2) For Viktoria I would agree with Monica Bellucci I mean she it really really hot but also a very fine actress who could do Viktoria well
3) Constantine I would go for Anthony Hopkins with his role In the Hannibal movies I would say that would be a perfect role for him
4) I would put Michael Jackson not as a zombie but as a apeman I mean would U wanna see his face especially decomposed???
5) Benny I think should be some poor bum on the street who could use some money
6) for Karras (it'd have to be a 2nd movie prolly considering the plot of the first game) I would put that priest guy from the princess bride if he were still alive it was almost the EXACT same voice (marriage it what bring us together today)
7) Truart... I don't really care who plays him considering you don't really see him that much so I would give some newbie outta film school a chance to do that I mean what could it hurt
8) Brother Cavador can be played by another no name (not really important I know but hell you had 2 missions going to get him he deserves some mention)

Campell sucks. You are confusing a campy cult classic with actual acting. Just because he was in a series of movies that were entertaining based on their corneyness doesn't mean the man can act his way out of a wet paper bag.
