Yeah, but think if they did it right, how cool it could be. With the right director, right actors, and the right budget, it could be sweet. Might even be the next big trilogy.
The one good thing you can say about Tobey McGuire is that if he is involved, it's likely to be a high-budget film.

Eww, plus he's waaay too much of a "rough and tumble" guy, in the short and stocky sense of the word, not the wiry Garrett way. He'd have to lose 150 lbs just to do the part, I'm imagining! At least Tobey is a heck of a lot slimmer than Mr. Crowe (no offense to him).
I think it would be similar to The Matrix in that it'd be best to find actors who could actually do most of the stunts/fighting/whatever themselves. Tobey is young and adventurous (*scoff*), so he could at least do some of his own stuff. But then again, I was thinking of a guy with the dedication Tom Cruise supposedly gave to his last movie, The Last Samurai (which I haven't seen, btw, so don't bug me if you hated it). It'd be really great to get a guy that really wanted to get into his character. Of course, that's Viggo, and he'd be willing to risk his life, but who knows..
I still think it's more than likely they'd Hollywood-ize (not a word, but it is now!) the series and piss off all of us, while gaining a bunch of fans who think they know what it's about from watching a bullshit action flick. It'd still be nice to look at if they got the steampunk atmosphere down, but I'd rather have a good film or nothing at all.
The thing is, Renault, a big budget usually implies an easily accessible product. That can work to it's disadvantage in some ways, and so, as long as they could do it, I'd say it might actually be better for it to be some artsy independent film which doesn't pander to the whims of Hollywood and is willing to do something unorthodox or release a product that isn't as easily accessible. When they put in a lot of money, they're expecting a lot back, and mostly only films with lots of action, lots of cleavage, and very little (if any) plot succeed in doing that. So if it could be something like The Lord of the Rings (which was filmed in New Zealand anyway, so Hollywood wasn't exactly breathing down PJs back) which was the underground trilogy, despite the wide fanbase and big budget, then I'd say "Hell yeah", but if it were independent and good too, well, I wouldn't complain.

it should definitely be a play or a musical.
Hunterzyph on 16/2/2004 at 21:05
Romance Comedy is what I had in mind...
Skulan on 16/2/2004 at 21:18
The musical would be awesome. I'm imagining a huge song and dance number with the Children of Karras. Perfectly simultaneous dance steps, and a whole chorus with the same voice singing praises to Karras and the Builder. Truly breathtaking.

Funny to see Garrett's cynicism (I can't spell) spread. :cheeky:
Romance comedy? Uhhh.....where though? Hollywood would dive for a relationship between Garrett and Viktoria. Eeek!
I mean she only ripped out his eye.
No I agree independent film....make us happy, we're the only ones who are going to go see this flick anyway.

Where's the Doom movie, starring Tom Berenger? Did they hire Joe Esterhaz to punch up the script?

The only things of importance when choosing an actor for Garret are:
1: The voice - nobody can beat Stephen Russell here.
2: The looks - he must be over average height; lean and gaunt looking; move with great agility and control; probably be closer to 40 years old; a hard man with a dark silent kind of charisma.
Not many actors can live up to this and that is just as well. Russel Crowe looks like a fat and stupid brute and his voice does not fit; Hugh Jackman is too flashy and does not look 'dark' enough; Viggo Mortenson has a weak and uninteresting voice and his appearance is also too much on the bright side.
There is one actor that might do the job though: Michael Wincott
A dark and gaunt man with a cool voice. You check his movies on imdb -
