The new Dr. Who, Christopher Eccleston, would make a good Garret.

GOOD LORD!! TOBY MCGUIRE? holy crap. might as well cast Rick Moranis as Garrett, Kramer from Seinfeld as Constantine and let Mel Brooks direct it.

Someone else on this thread has suggested Johnny Depp for the role of Garrett and I srtongly agree, I think he'd make the best choice. Another actor to consider might be Jochaim Pheinox, I've goofed the spelling of his name, well known for hi's work as the evil Emperor from Gladiator and also seen in Signs.
If I could have my pick of directors, Roman Polanski, would be my first pick, he can do the Old World and he has a shard of class. Maybe Terry Gilliam, I wouldn't quite trust this to Riddley Scott, but for tricky reasons.
My big problem is that even if they get one brand name actor like Toby, the reast of the cast will likely consist of nobody actors who are nobodies for a reason.
Consider the string of groaningly bad video game movie adaptations we've seen over recent years...Super Mario Brothers, Wing Commander, Tomb Raider. Who are these flicks made for, the games are without fail a billion times better. Why bother to make a crappy adaptation, improvising anything, unless your gonna invest on a near epic scale why even bother? Wing Comander sells at Borders on DVD for 7.99, Chris Roberts, the man who wrote wing commander directed that film! It suck cause he sold out and made a piece of junk. Wing Commander deserved better and so does Thief, all this said, sometimes, seldom, hollywood still pulls of something remotely worth seeing, I would love to see a thief film done right.

yeeeesss and Tim Burton will do nicely for dark streets and corrupt characters. Look at the concept art for Edward scissor hand, looks like a thief character to me.

Greets!
Ooo... Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. :D A winning combination, proven on the field of battle, as it were. I think I could survive a movie like that.
Chris Carter (X-Files) would be a decent directing coice, too. He's got a penchant for the shadowy. :)

Anytime you hear that, theres a good chance that some stoned executive pulled it out of his ass and no one will lift a finger on it.

Oh geez, guys, I can't believe that the movie about the Thief game could be done. No new confirmations about this project? Oh geez, if the movie is out, I'll probably die of happiness!!!
And yes, Russell must sound Garrett.
