Haha! Yes. Craymen and Elementals, too.

I'm a little confused about craymen. Since the craybeasts in the Maw are obviously the Trickster's creations, I assumed that their little brothers the craymen are, too. Like bugbeasts, I believe they were only seen in T1.

Hi everyone, my first post!
I think it's possible to incorporate a lot of the original
games with some of the new.
A new apprentice could be trained, but gets into trouble by stumbling
over the new plot line. Garrett has to remedy the situation maybe out
of guilt or maybe out of protection of his own anonimity.
At the end of TDS there was more than enough chaos happening
that either a new faction or a splinter of one of the originals could
capitalize on.
I agree that Garrett IS Thief but that's no reason a second character couldn't
be played in a couple of levels. (Maybe with a different skill set, more athletic/tightrope? or disguise and dialogue based)
I'm not the biggest fan of the "magic" side of things but kept at the level of T2
I think it could add just the right level of sparkle at the right moment.
My non-negotiables would be rope arrows, the ability to "ghost" levels, and a user friendly editor.

Jah: They craymen are never seen anywhere near the Trickster's territory, often alone, isolated, away from people, near water (except in TDP's Lost City, where the only water was at the both extreme ends, yet craymen were closer to the lava and in the middle, than near the water. The craybeasts are only ever seen in the Maw of Chaos. I think they are kinda like what the huge red spiders are to the common huge green spiders: an enhanced, nastier form, but never seen anywhere away from the Maw or the other beasts.
Flashart: Hmm. Interesting. Sorry for the interruption. I agree there's lots of potential, but now it's tricky and will either require digging deep into canon and being clever, or breaking the formula...and being really clever. :cheeky: I hope, too, they will think about the editor as they develop the game, and not wait for us to petition before they decide to give us one. I understand they'll need to see how well it sells first, but it would be nice if no one had to scramble to get the editor out like Jordan Thomas did for us after hours and before Ion was shut down. :whew:

My conception of craymen, apes, kurshok and bugbeasts have always been that they used to be the Trickster's own people of the nature, living all around the world in their own secluded societies. The Trickster had them in a leach, and when someone disobeyed, they were cast out, much like the Kurshok. Later, when human technology started advancing, the Trickster's power faded and the old societies distanced themselves from one another.
The Kurshok still live in their citadel under the sea, the apes have a foothold in The Maw, the Craymen probably have a colony in the outer waters of the ocean somewhere, and the bugbeasts probably have a hive in some wild jungle in the south.
I think I'll sketch a bugbeast hive next. :sly:

Hi to you. You forget swimmable water and 3D path for volatiles WITHOUT using elevators (this last one coult not understable and unworthy by the most, but it's fundamental, when you want to simulate a bird that flies, or a fish that swims, that not move in the same plane [for further information read here: (

I voted for having Garrett as the protagonist in the old play style. But honestly, will the new Thief game even be canon? I mean who the hell will be making the new story any way? If it's not the original creators as far as i'm concerned it's not cannon. Some money-driven project manager can't make a better thief story than the true fans (read the TTLG forums), and surely can't continue the legacy of the original authors.

#1., of course.

how many would say they don't want another Garrett story because they just don't think another decent story with him is even possible?
 Why wouldn't it be possible?

The project manager isn't writing the story. ;) And I think EM has some pretty good writing talent to create a worthy sequel. And they can contact some of the old Ion Storm and Looking Glass people too, like they did with DX3. About T4 being canon or not: I think it certainly will be. One last thing: why do you think there aren't "true" Thief fans in Eidos Montreal? Based on what I've read, there are at least some Thief fans on the DX3 team, so it wouldn't be hard to believe that they'd hire more Thief fans for the development.

The common OPINION of distrust for the non-LGS developers. Opinion, not fact.
Belief, eh? Pessimistic outlook, and so on.:)
