It would be cool if the LGS devs and artists could jot down what they remember of all the backstories that weren't spelled out in the games, for the new team. At their leisure, of course.

I think it would also be good if the devs look into these boards here and check out what the fan base of T1,2,3 has to say about their hopes/expectations... I think thats an easier and more promising approach to a potential sequel than just getting some new stories together.
@topic: You can never have enough Garrett.

I have to admit - the thought of a mission serving as a prequel of sorts showing how Garrett came to be a master thief and more about his checkered past would be really interesting - and I'd take that any day over some "future thief" nonsense that will probably end up happening putting Garrett in the present day.
Regardless, I'm interested in seeing if there is a new game in the Thief series at all, really.

That's a given. They have more reading than I think they can stand on our wishes, so I threw in a new idea that would tap into the ROOTS of Thief, knowing full well it's hardly possible.

Personally I'd like to see, again, Garrett as the protagonist, with the same time period.
That said, I'd also be interested in other genres of games set in the Thief setting. Imagine playing as a Mechanist during the events of TMA and the struggles after the collapse of the Mechanists - hostility from practically all factions, risk of being mobbed in the streets if identified, Pagans, trying to deal with the Hammerites, etc. I believe there is a lot of potential there. That's not to say that I don't look forward to another stealth game, but I'd be interested in seeing the setting expanded and viewed from other factions.

If it's a prequel : His early Keeper and thieving years.
If it's a sequel : Some new grand and wicked conspiracy of a few nobles against others... Or tensions rising again between the Hammerites and Pagans, leading to the threat of an inevitable open war (Garrett may be the final Keeper, who'll put things right, but he's still just one person - though, as always, one man can make a difference)...

Although it would be interesting for sure, it would have to be a spin-off or companion game, since it would become Quake...in The City.
Oh, and I think the noble rulers could use a shake-down. They aren't immune. The Baron's back from the war with Blackbrook, but he's not the same. The war ended when a nasty coterie of necromancers on the side of Blackbrook, or near enough and who spotted an opportunity, caused the Baron to become possessed and under their control (another sci-fi cliche). He comes back to The City, having called the war a resounding success (whatever it was really about, we don't know), and returns. The necromancers nearly get away with a scheme to drain the wealth from The City nobility. Naturally, Garrett has a problem with the dwindling wealth, not knowing why it's happening, and the desperation of the nobility to hoard what they can, the servants getting let go, the prisons filling up, The Hammers with their hands full with sinners or people seeking to be taken in, the Pagans overrun with people living in the forests and begging for work or stealing crops, and...
I'M KIDDING! Except for the notion of the the Baron as a key character.

Why not, you could still pull out a Thief game out of this storyline. Necromancers clearly play a role in Thief:
/the District with the cathedral in it
/the necromancers tower in "Life of a Party"
They could release a zombie plague onto the city... Garrett collecting the loot people leave behind^^. But maybe necros wouldn't possess someone... maybe a Psi-Guild with mind control abilities is introduced. A new cult with nebulous goals, starting to take over the city's leading caste.

Can you imagine the sheer horror (to an intellectual mind) of necromancers fighting in a battle with armies of two late-medieval cities..?
