If you'd included Thief III I'd have to say the puppets, zombies, haunts, and yes, the statues too. The statues are kinda freaky in a cool way, though. I love their monologue ('Run. Run and flee and DIE!...' I see that they deffinetly get their sense of sentence structure from Gamall;) ).
For Thief I I'd have to say zombies, simple because I haven't come across anything else yet. I've only gotten through the first level of Thief II, so I really can't say anything, there.

Definately the apparitions for me. The backwards talking freaks me out. I basically stopped being afraid of the undead once I learned I could sword them down. Would be much scarier if you couldn't and had to use holy water..
The treebeasts are fast indeed and strong but for some reason they are horrrible aims and if basically any other ai is pitted against them (excluding rangers) will defeat them.
(example) play creature clash 2.

A special award goes to Burricks for not being scary at all. Instead I always get a smile on my face whenever I see or hear them.
burricks are so cute! :p

I hate encountering burricks just because I feel so bad when I kill one. They make such a sad noise when they keel over and you can't help but think of the burrick's poor mother, grief stricken when she finds out her baby's dead.
As for scariest, haunts and apparitions are almost neck and neck in my book. Anyone figured out what theyre actually saying? I mean, some of them you can hear quite easily - "Join us, join us, join us NOOOW!" but some of them are just freaky. I bet half of the sound effects began as Eric Brosius going "And today, we're making scary undead noises" and then fiddling with pitch and levels and stuff. :laff:
What really creeps me out is when an apparition sees you and it does this horrible growling roar like a ghost cat or something. That is one freeeeeeaky sound effect.

I think there was a thread on the Apperation-speak a while back. I could be wrong here, but as far as I remember parts of what they say ware actually dialogue from Viktoria, backwards.
As for what the Haunts say, well, there's the obvious "Join us, join us now!". The only other one I know is "Flames, flames, nothing but flames burning your flesh!".

there's a haunt sound file that sounds like it ends with "Cheers for their murder." I'm sure it's not that though!

For some reason, I never found the haunts that scary. Once I realized that they move just like regular human guards, and I got used to the noises they make, I kind of got over them. I was more freaked out by the apebeasts and frogs in T1, especially in "Escape". And I actually screamed when I saw the ents in T2 charging at me. I loved them.

TG: Apparitions, Frogs, Craymen
T2: Tree Beasts, Golden Children
TDS: Puppets (and the Cradle Staff...the whole level in general - I think Null, Terri, and Eric were working on a different game than everyone else)
