He more reminds me of Thoth, tbh. The God of scribes, literacy, writing, and learning.

Although ZylonBane is a little bit right (not as much as he thinks he is), a film (or anything) is worth picking apart if it is pretty fun to do so. Inception is a bit overrated IMO, and not as interesting as it could have been, but it is still pretty fun to pick it apart. And pick it apart we have. And it was fun.

I think for very popular movies, they can be worth picking apart not so much (or not just) for their own sake, but what it says about the culture that they're so popular. I think Avatar is definitely in that category. Aside from the nice visuals, there's not a lot to say about the story... But it says a lot about the particular flavor of white man's burden going on in the culture these days.
Inception has more to say because of all the puzzles, but aside from that, it did tap also into something culturally when it became so big... Is it that people are disillusioned by politics and the economy that they want to be sucked into obscure puzzles about things deep in the mind when they go to the movies? Edit: Or maybe that makes it less interesting to talk about? YMMV, I guess.

Inception is a movie that makes stupid people feel smart. This is the only cultural thing that it tapped - the need to feel smart. But there is no classic movie with so much exposition from the characters. This is no Blade Runner, Dark City, Matrix, Moon or even District 9. Sorry for the harsh words, but the movie is clearly overrated.

It's alright, could have been a lot worse, could have been a lot better. Too much like the Matrix and not enough like Pi.

That's probably oversimplifying it. Of course it made dumb people feel smart. It also made smart people feel unpatronized for once. Maybe it struck some middle ground where the dumb people could grasp it and the smart people were satisfied. It also wasn't a remake of some lame ass 80's tv show, and didn't star Jennifer Anniston, which is a huge achievement these days in and of itself. It reminds me of Bioshock in that sense. It's absent the complexity of SS2, but just involved enough to capture the interest of someone looking for something smarter than Call of Duty. More than anything, a step in the right direction.

I just cut my dick off because I don't think any member of a species that could produce whatever that was should continue to procreate. I suggest you all do the same before it's too late.
