I have to say, I find Nolan's detachedness more moving in those films where it works than the more usual thing where movies are blatantly emotionally manipulative. I rarely like it when a film tells me how to feel about characters, and I appreciate that Nolan leaves this up (almost) entirely to the audience.
Funny, I thought that it was blatantly manipulative myself, that's why I merely cared for them. Nolan relied on heavy emotional clichés (loss, guilt, etc.) to try and make us feel for the characters, and a subtle, subdued tone is precisely what he should be going for yet either can't or fails to do. There are light touches here and there, granted, but most of it is forced on you.
That said, the play with ambiguous ethics and morality of the whole story was a pretty good point however. Someone said earlier that there are no villains, I disagree. With the exception perhaps of Ariadne, they're all bad guys. It's an interesting take.

I see what you mean, but for me blatant emotional manipulation comes mostly from how something is presented to the audience. I love some of Spielberg's movies dearly, but boy, does he ever try to manipulate the audience with his tone, the choice of music, the way it's filmed and edited.
Nolan's themes are very much about emotions, but I don't think his style is emotionally manipulative - which may be manipulative in a reverse-psychological way, obviously. :p

That is awesome. Not quite as awesome as the Toy Story one, but still pretty awesome.

Uh, that's way better than the Toy Story one in almost every conceivable way.

They're both well made, but
Inception and
Psychonauts is a much better fit thematically than
Toy Story.
Has anyone posted (

Inception trailer re-dub? It's good for a giggle or two.

The Toy Story one has more extensive lip-sync, and the selected scenes mirror the original trailer more closely. Much of the Psychonauts footage seems to have been selected at random.

Yeah, but that doesn't make it better. A lot of the scenes in Inceptionauts fit the audio better IMHO.
But regardless, they do tweak the imagination on to what Schafer or Pixar could do with a premise like Inception's.
