I am trying to run Thief Gold on a win xp system. I got it installed using the lgntforce tip but when I try to run it I get a message that says the program reguires a current Indeo codec. to obtain the driver that is compatible with this vs. of windows, it gives me the website to Indeo.lingos.com. I am running xp pro with sp3. I played this game a few years ago on a win 98 system. Great game. I would like to play it again. I tried running it using windows compatibility wizard but no help.

When I installed the game I did not install the dx drivers that were on the game cd. I recently reinstalled windows due to a bad infection. I think I am running dx 9c, at least that is what dxdiag says. I did a search of "codec" on my system and there were a bunch of them. It seems that all of the codecs that I found were installed from my xp pro cd?

You os will install a bunch as a default install. The one you need is on the Thief cd. :thumb:

iv5play.exe on the Thief cd, but for Windows XP SP2 is recommended use the (ftp://djriff.homeftp.net/Soft/VideoCodecs/iv5_11setup.exe) new version of codec.

why didn't the codec install when i installed the game? i found the iv5play.exe file on cd 1 and installed it but i am still having the same problem. i then downloaded and installed the codec linked above. same results. maybe i should uninstall and reinstall?

i reinstalled the game. i then tried another install of the codec linked above. apparently i goofed on the first go around. started the game and got the opening cut scene, setup my controls and when i hit continue i heard an error tone. had to hit the windows key to get rid of the black screen. back at my desktop a message said direct 3d device does not accurately report texture memory usage. contact your 3d accellator vender for updated drivers. according to the freq. asked questions section, because i have nvidia video cards i must downgrade my dx drivers to an 8 searies driver. how do i do this? what will it do to my games that require dx 9c. is there a way to switch back and forth between the different drivers ?

Hi Paul

Can I assume you have an nVidia 8 series gfx card and your running windows Xp..? There isnt a way to flick between drivers, you have to uninstall and reinstall etc Im afraid.

You can download a copy of the indeo codec installer from - (http://www.free-codecs.com/indeo_codec_download.htm) here

The texture memory error is a known issue, the fix is - (http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=77102) here but I would suggest you download the latest (http://www.nvidia.co.uk/object/winxp_180.48_whql_uk.html) driver for your card and also download and reinstall the latest version of DirectX - (http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/directx.html) Link

hey again
I am running 2- 7600gt cards in sli. i have the latest drivers for these cards. i am also running dx 9c and have installed the indeo codec. i'm reading about adding (safe_texture_manager) to user.cfg or cam.cfg. i found the user.cfg and cam.cfg files associated with thief gold. what now?

that only applies to Thief 2, not thief gold as far as I am aware.

if you still cant get the movies to play then download and install this codec pack - K(http://files.3dnews.ru/pub/soft/multimedia/codec/klcodec442s.exe) lite
