What's the status of the Indeo codec on Vista? Do we still have to purchase it if we want to see Indeo movies on Vista? Can anyone confirm that it actually works with the Thief movies?

the opening movie plays fine. it's when i hit continue to load a game that i get the "direct 3d device does not accurately report texture memory uasage" error message. a friend suggested installing win 98 in parallel with xp. then set up 98 with the earlier dx drivers? i am able to play the game if i turn the hardware setting to off though the graphics are terrible.

You're trying to install Thief GOLD, right? Then the CFG files don't apply to your situation.
Have you seen this?

Help! I only get a black screen or Direct 3D Device does not accurately report texture memory usage. Please Note:If you are using an nVidia card with drivers in the 9x.xx range then the fixes listed below will not work. At present the only solution is to downgrade your drivers to versions in the 8x.xx range or below.
An error message that pops up when starting a level in Thief and Thief 2. You may not get an error message, you may see only a black screen. It primarily occurs on Nvidia Graphics cards running driver versions 5x.xx and above although there are several reports of it occuring on ATI 9xxx cards using new drivers.
Tell us how it goes, and give us as much info as you can.

i tried installing the fix and got an error message saying theif has encountered a problem and must close. because i have an nvidia card it sounds like downgrading my dx drivers is the only fix. i am not going to do this. i will try playing with hardware acceleration turned off. terrible graphics but at least it plays. i will probably get burned out on the bad graphics in short order and uninstall the game.
