Installing TDP from CD. This may be helpful to know. - by Dasubervixen

Hello everyone :)
I was having a problem installing The Dark Project on my machine running XP from the original CD. No matter what I did the install program would not run. Typing d:\setup.exe -lgntforce would result in "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them."
It turns out that the problem had something to do with XP-Antispy. How it was stopping the installer I'm not sure. I'm not a computer person. But I do know that when I unchecked all the boxes in Antispy and saved it. Thief loaded just fine. So if you're having the same problem. You want to give this a try.
Hope this is helpful to someone.

Always disconnect from the internet, kill all Antivirus programs when installing any app that does not need an internet connection (Upgrades etc.)
This is not an unknown problem. In fact many games and apps are now coming out that suggest you install from SAFE MODE to avoid this problem.

Yup! That's why I have never had a problem loading ANY GAME or any THIEF release in over 10 years. On nearly as many systems.
Case in point (

Looniness confirmed.
You show me a modern game that actually recommend rebooting Windows into safe mode before attempting to install, and I'll show you a game written by someone who's utterly incompetent.

The question isnt *where* do you find it, but *what* is it... Its just another random antispyware program. If you dont have it installed on your computer, well, you wont find it anywhere... and if you dont know if you or anyone else installed it on your computer, well...
