I dunno, man. I'm finding it kinda hard to feel sympathy for you at the moment. If it were over those few games that require you access Steam to activate, I'd be more inclined to feel sorry for you. But it sounds like you've made all your recent purchases through it. And then lost your password. A password you should've long since committed to memory, despite the circumstances.
Thats only half the equation, though.
You're forgetting the part where I bought a game over Impulse, and the service is refusing to let me use the game because it claims that the Serial code they gave me is invalid. No activation, no game.
Secondly, this IS over a number of games that require Steam access to play. Shogun 2, Left 4 Dead 2, New Vegas all require STEAM to register, and since I can't get into my account at the moment I can't play them even if I were to go out and buy a disc. Technically, I could put them on another account, but would mean I couldn't access them when I get to that point where I spend a lot of time without any internet.

So? I've been hit with a game where the serial code PRINTED ON THE MANUAL was invalid. Accidents happen.
Get hold of Impulse and demand a new code.
Also, since it was Crysis, well, you deserved what you got.

and I've been hit with a genuine game that required me to type a code which was probably printed by drunk monkeys. It took THREE people and FIVE minutes to decipher the thing. Is that a 0? or an 8? Is that an i, or maybe it is a 1? Ah hell, maybe it is a lower-case l!

Hahaha, oh I've been there as well.
I do not miss CD keys at all, though they are occasionally useful for registering a Steam-requiring game onto Steam so I don't have to actually put the disc in.

What is the 3rd word in the 4th paragraph on Gabe Newell's buttcheek tattoo?

Did you double-check that you're using the right e-mail ID to register the game with? Happened with me once. If you paid with PayPal, use your PayPal e-mail ID.

I had one that was partially wiped from the back of the bloody manual by some asshat in the assembly line. I had to guess three digits by randomly entering the possibilities based on what little had survived.

I purchased the game through the Impulse client via paycard, while logged in to my account.

Yeah, stupid on my part, but not really the point.
The point is that my access to games should depend on whether I effin paid for the games, not on whether I can access some online service.
You are an idiot. Not only did you forget a password to something you obviously cherish, you OWN yourself by telling the world how fucking stupid and short-sighted you are and blame Steam? Go to Hell. You fail at Steam and life.
