Hmmmmm. This thread has got me thinking. Seeing that Garrett "killed" the Trickster, what would of become of his "spirit?" If the Trickster has any? Will this spirit be hell-bent on revenge? Hmmm.. I think I opened up the door for Thief 4! :ebil:

i think i have a short, but good explanation about how the Eye came to be:
It was created by the evil wizard [Insert Name Here] so that he could see not only all events going on in the world, but quite possibly see into the Ether as well. This would allow any wizard with half a brain to become insanely powerful. However, [Insert Name Here] was seen by the people as the evil bastard he was, was killed, and had his relic entombed. Then whoever first found it, found it, and didnt realise what they had, because [Insert Name Here] had been dead for millenia and there were no records of him nor anyone living from his time. So they thought, "Hey, cool rock, I think I'll put it up on my mantelpiece."

Alas, all we can do is to wait.
Hopefully, SolidAndShade will return soon, with some answers. :p

now that im finally getting DromEd, i may create a miss around that story. only, my version of DromEd is a bit... quirky, ive got the Komag stuff, and upgraded it, but for some reason, the Vine Arrows i put in my inventory (i only have 10) dont work. It wont even show the draw back animation, itll just remove one from my inventory when i let go of the mouse button. that, and i cant get doors or books to work. (Doors wont open no matter how i approach it, and books wont open)

Oh, and DarthMRN... try to let Connie notice you when swapping out the stones. What happens? You die. You just... start dying. No big pyrotechnics necessary.
I was sort of referring to this. The way this "god" not only had to see you to know you were there, but then had to use several seconds to kill you.
Personally, I think that smells avatar long way.

As I see it:
Trickster is one of the Old Gods (as stated by Garrett in Strange Bedfellows' movie) and Constantine is his physical enbodyment on earth (even more than the Eldar's Avatar in WH40k, it's Trickster ok). Viktoria is as god as Dyan or Larkspur - she is but a dryad with followers. Hammers are newer (in Down In The Bonehoard the Trickster is worshipped before Hammerites chase him away), and I wouldn't be surprised if the Builder is just in their own heads and they draw power from some older source, like the Precursors. Just my point of view...

The Trickster doesn't slaughter you instantly with a giant fireball because Looking Glass didn't want him to. It has nothing to do with the capabilites of the game engine. :tsktsk:

Plus it's made obvious from the cut scene where Garrett loses his eye that the Trickster would have no problem killing Garrett, and swiftly.

...his "sacrifice" wasnt yet complete... :sly:

I was replying to this, as it has no bearing on the discussion at hand, just like any other thinkable real-life occurence with an impact on the games:

Also, I think it is more the limited level of power of a 1998 game with a renderer dating further back. Yep, 1998. A time when DirectX6 was shipping with games. Thief was one of the first games using it. You have to give the game credit though for pushing the envelope as far as it did at the time.
And who mentioned phyrotechnics anyway? I'm all for invisible power.
Trixie finds Garrett doing some nasty shit while he is performing the single most important act during his embodyment as Constantine. What possible reason could he have had for not killing him off ASAP, so the ritual could go on? Unless he didn't have the power to kill G faster than he did. Now, I don't know about you, but that amount of power doesn't strike me as very godlike.
