Add (

I-War's much-celebrated intro sequence is also a pretty decent example in this regard. Only pretty decent because most of the intro is scene-setting rather than gameplay-related; however the sections set on the ship along with the combat scenes are, whilst still cinematic, nicely indicative of the gameplay.
I agree, except for how everything's so much faster in the video :p

All the Oddworld games (
especially the first two).
Update: oops, didn't read the entire first post. No, the Oddworld intros don't exactly portray
gameplay, but they fit the game like a
glove (same graphics, etc... 'It has some of the most natural, integrated cutscenes I've ever seen, to the point where some of them end at a screen that suddenly becomes gameplay. Go to (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWFTs9zRjUM) 6:09 in this video), as opposed to action FPS games (like Crysis) that show the player doing more-fluid-than-in-the-game moves that just set you up for disappointment.

The intro is a history lesson and then an in-game cutscene. It's got the style and grandeur and all of the game, but it doesn't really say anything at all one way or another about the gameplay.

The parkour bit after the FMV in Mirror's Edge, which seems totally nuts until you play enough to pull that kind of shit off.

Well the Deus Ex intro was wordy, cliche-embracing, pretentious and awesome. I'd say that's a pretty accurate representation of the game.
It also used the game engine, models, and locations, right down to its oft-criticized combat AI.
True, but it didn't really
introduce the game and it was also a bit spoilerish. Players probably would have been better off without it seeing it.
So far, my favorite intro is HL1, because it was interactive and not cinematic.

Agree with all, but which intro´s are the offenders, maybe in older games but can´t think of anything recent
