It has a very interesting mechanic with the real time thing, and I love the storytelling. But it's dated. It does things that game-makers are told not to do anymore, like allowing you to get into unwinnable situations you can't dig yourself out of and it's instant-lose, and puzzles that are more like "read the developer's mind" than something you play through. But it's still a classic.

Picked up The Dark Knight Rises today when I noticed that it was on sale for 79 cents. From the screenshots it looked like a simplified Arkham City, but surprisingly it's not quite as simplified as I was expecting. It is open world for instance. Sure it's an extremely blocky and empty world, occupied only by a few stray collectibles and the occasional gang, but it's open nonetheless. And gliding and grapplehooking around it is quite fun. The fighting is easy, consisting mostly just of hammering the attack button over and over while watching Batman do awesome shit, often in slow-mo, while only occasionally hitting the Counter button when it comes up and maybe even sometimes mixing it up by hitting the batarang button. Nevertheless it's still the most satisfying fighting system I've seen in an iOS title since Bruce Lee: Dragon Warrior.
This review shows off the game rather well:

Just noticed that a HD version of The Secret of Bryce Manor is available for free now. I played the vanilla version on my iPhone when it was first released and thought that it was one of the better touchscreen games at that time.

I'd play Bryce Manor but I hear you play a creepy crawly spider in it so no thanks.
Lately I've been playing
A Blocky Kind of Love and
The Little Tank That Could by Abraham Stolk, who is rapidly becoming my favourite iOS developer. This is the same guy who made The Little Crane That Could, and with A Blocky Kind of Love he's taken that same physics-based gameplay and applied to something that can only be described as "a romantic vehicle simulation game". It's a series of vehicle based challenges wherein you most woo the object of your affection with precise driving skills. (

The buggydriving levels remind me of LBA2, the horserididng stage is difficult as hell, but I somehow ended up getting the highest GameCenter score on the rowboat level. :cheeky:
I've also been playing
True Skate, which is a pretty great skating game. It only has one level but the physics and the intuitive interface keeps me playing it nonetheless. (

skate for the iPad.

Anyone have any recommendations for apps I need to get?
So far I've gotten the filemanager, a few emulators, and that thing that removes the lockscreen. What else is good?

I'm sticking with my iPad Classic thankyouverymuch. Just discovered that DisplayOut has been hacked into it, so if I can get my hands on a cheap HDMI or composite cable I'll be able to hook it up to the TV. Pretty snazzy if you ask me! Then all I gotta do is rip free movies with one of the custom YouTube downloader apps and I'll have it MADE IN THE SHADE

@henke; Thanks for the info & review video link to the Batman game. I would have passed it by without a second glance or, Hell, probably even a first glance, knowing me.
It looks utterly fantastic! I am seriously impressed! Jeez, it looks like something that would be on Xbox Live Arcade or something. The graphics just floored me! Being a former modder (8+ years ago) I am a bit unfamiliar with current-generation graphics development, but back then making a game based in the darkness like this was a good way to get away with a more visually appealing game when up against engine/hardware limitations. Is this still the case? This game appears much darker than the other 2 Batman games and looks really good.
Simplifying the combat, while it might sound like a bad thing on paper, actually appeals to me. These touch screen games that want to simulate a console game experience without the benefit of a physical controller can be iffy. The touch controls can be spotty and frustrating, especially if the game is fast and frantic. I would never play a game like Street Fighter 2 on one, for example, since accuracy, speed and precision rule the day. Sounds like this game nailed it. Doesn't seem like you even would notice any compromises.

That's what people hear about EVERY new iFillInTheBlank device.
So, y'know, thanks for that.
