Seems to be a lot of Christmas Sales going on right now, including from EA and Capcom. Since I'll be heading home for Christmas and be away from my gaming PC and 360, I decided to pick up a couple of older iOS titles I've had my eye on for a while now. Mirror's Edge and Resident Evil 4. 89 cents each. Gave them a little go this morning.
Resident Evil 4 - The controls are managable though pretty loose, but then again tight controls have never been one of Resident Evil's trademarks. But the controls aren't the biggest problem. The problem is the way the story has been chopped up into bits. So instead of moving through a gameworld where all the areas are connected to eachother, you fight spawning zombies in a closed-in area for a while, then get some blurry images with text to forward the story until the next arena. It kinda kills the sense of adventure and exploration, and the intervening "cutscenes" are very cheaply made. Often they don't even have images, just desciptive text. Not too crazy about this.
Mirror's Edge fared much better. I wasn't too impressed by the gameplay videos of it, but it really is much more fun to play than it looks. Even the combat, which was pretty weak in the console/PC versions is gloriously fastpaced, easy and fun here.

Terry Cavanagh (
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.distractionware.superhexagon) is a sadist. To be fair, this has been out a while on other platforms (which I haven't tried) but has recently come out for Android and I picked it up for the 59p it's on sale for at the moment. It's pretty similar to the Super Gravitron in VVVVVV, which is to say that surviving for more than 10 seconds is a challenge - but it has an excellent soundtrack and as it only has two controls (left and right) it works well on a touchscreen.

I tried it last week. I can't last 10 seconds. It's rock hard.

I actually managed to complete Hexagon difficulty, but there's this one pattern that pops up on Hexagoner that is literally impossible for me to get through (31.26 seconds is the best time I can get). I think there might be some input lag (I've been playing it on a T-Mobile G2/HTC Desire Z running CM10 and a Nook Color also running CM10).

How many seconds does it normally last? I can get to about 11.

60 seconds to complete a difficulty level and unlock Hyper Mode. Not sure what happens if you get 60 seconds in Hyper Mode.

I wasn't too crazy about VVVVVV but I decided to check out the iPad version of SH nonetheless. Wow, yeah. That's hard. I did manage to get to 24.5 seconds one time but that must've been some kind if insane accident because after that I was right back to getting 3 and 5 second runs again.

Mutant Mudds! Looks a little generic, and...yeah, it kinda is. But who cares so long as it's fun and otherwise interesting, right? Which this game just happens to be. And free to boot, though only for a limited time.
Geddit while the gettin's good!
